An ideal opportunity has arisen for an experienced employment caseworker to join this not for profit union for education, early years & childcare professionals on a part-time hours basis, either 2.5 or 3 days per week, for a fixed term duration. This post is to support the existing team, whilst one person is on Maternity Leave for one year duration.

They offer a competitive annual salary commencing £27,616 pa, based on 35 hour week. The pro-rata salary dependent upon the actual hours agreed, could range from £13,807.99 to £16,569.59 pa. Varied additional benefits are offered including contributory pension scheme and simply health scheme (paid for by the organisation).

This role is based working from the Edinburgh Office, however to be fully effective in this role it is important that the successful candidate is willing and able to travel around Scotland to support the members.

This role is to -
- To undertake casework; advising and supporting members in Scotland.
- To represent us, at the request of the SPO (Scotland), at consultation/negotiation meetings with local, regional or national bodies or organisations.
- To provide support to activists within the region, to recruit new activists to train as Field Officers etc.
- To actively seek opportunities to recruit new members. Participation in recruitment events and NQT meetings.
- To organise meetings of members/non-members on specific issues of concern

The successful applicant will possess:
- Experience of acting as a representative
- Good knowledge of UK employment legislation
- Confidence to represent members in challenging situations
- Good communication skills, both oral and written
- Good IT skills
- Ability to travel within Scotland and work flexibly with some unsocial hours
- Advocacy skills and experience in the employment sector

The successful candidate will also ideally possess:
- Trade Union or membership focused environment experience
- Current knowledge of education issues
- Educated to degree level or equivalent
- Experience of working in and understanding the management context of nurseries, schools or colleges, academies etc.
- Driving licence
