This highly successful technology company design high-tech laser systems & also provide custom laser machining services for clients world-wide. They have a new role for a talented hands-on Physics Graduate (or possibly Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science Graduate) to join them as an Applications Engineer. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate keen to join a high-tech company offering on-going training and superb long-term career development potential.

The applications team of their laser micro-machining division develop custom build machines and provide micro-machining services to high-tech industries & research facilities across the world. The team are incredibly busy developing new systems and processes to meet their clients' requirements. As a result of this success they are looking for a Physical Scientist (Graduate Physicist, Graduate Materials Scientist or Graduate Mechanical Engineer) to join them as an Applications Engineer.

The Applications Engineer ( Physicist / Materials Scientist etc) will be responsible for the state-of-the-art in-house laser micromachining facilities and for developing new laser micro-machining processes & techniques for their diverse range of clients. The projects are short turnaround and incredibly varied -customers range from academic institutions through to medical device and semiconductor companies. The Applications Engineer will quickly take responsibility for all aspects of managing and delivering projects. As your capabilities as Applications Engineer grow there will be opportunities to expand your responsibilities to include assisting with on-site installation and commissioning of equipment world-wide and contributing to exciting new R&D projects.

This is an exceptional role for an enthusiastic Physics Graduate (or Materials Science Graduate) ideally with some knowledge or experience in Laser/Optical Engineering or Materials Engineering (perhaps gained in a university project or placement?) and keen to develop a career in a high-tech industry.

To be considered for the role of Applications Engineer you need the following:

Education:

* A Degree (BSc, MPhys, BEng / MEng, MSc, etc) in Physics, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering or similar/related subject.

Experience:

* Personable with a customer focused manner
* Ability to travel occasionally internationally at short notice.
* Excellent written/verbal communications skills

Knowledge of the following would be advantageous but training can be provided:

* Laser Micromachining e.g. advanced laser thin film patterning, laser transfer (LIFT), laser surface modification and high aspect ratio micro-cutting/drilling of glass, ceramics, metals, plastics with state-of-art direct write schemes.
* Optics
* Fabrication & Characterisation of Materials
* Materials Science
* Ultrafast and/or Q-switched laser systems
* Machine control software
* Integration and test of complex laser systems
