The role will be providing technical support for the procurement of equipment to be used for the packaging and long term storage and disposal of radioactive waste.

Job Description:

The Radwaste Engineer will work with the teams designing the Radioactive Waste Treatment Systems and Buildings within the “Responsible Designer” of the project, but will provide partially embedded support to the “Intelligent Customer” for the procurement of consumables for the long term packaging, storage and disposal of radioactive waste.

In addition they will work with the Responsible Designer to ensure building and equipment design interfaces are appropriately managed by:

* Supporting the Intelligent Customer with the procurement of items (waste packages (and accessories), handling equipment (overpacks, trolley, crane grabs, etc.), grouts, chemicals, etc.) used for the processing, packaging, storage and disposal of radioactive waste including,
* Identification of suitable suppliers,
* Assisting with the production of technical procurement specifications (including requirements for all necessary design substantiation to support regulatory licensing activities),
* Assisting with the assessment of technical offers from potential suppliers,
* Assisting with planning and scheduling activities to ensure interface data, and actual (pre-production) equipment is available at appropriate milestones (detailed design, factory testing, and commissioning of waste systems; and package licensing and qualification activities)
* Supporting Responsible Designer teams with the surveillance of deliverables associated with interfacing systems and buildings,
* Participating in Project Change Management processes,
* Promoting collaborative working between the Responsible Designer, the Intelligent Customer and Suppliers,
* Promoting and ensuring the capitalization of Lessons Learnt and sharing of Good Practice within the project teams.

Training & Experiences:
Mechanical Engineer with a minimum of 5 years experience in the Nuclear Industry:
• Nuclear Power Station Design / Operations / Decommissioning
• Radioactive Waste Processing / Management
• Licensing of Radioactive Waste Packages
• Application of Regulatory Requirements
• Materials
• Engineering Procurement Contracts (FIDIC / NEC)
• Resourcing / Planning / Scheduling to meet relevant project milestones
