Senior / Lead Design Engineer

Our client is one of the world's largest formwork, falsework, temporary works, propping / shoring systems and scaffolding specialists. Therefore our client’s Design Engineers develop efficient solutions and implementation plans to realise customers projects, often with bespoke innovation and / or methodology applied. In tandem to this our client’s R&D activities constantly strive to develop market changing technologies and products that meet the needs of their customers in turn.

Due to continued growth and a significant increase in workload, our client is now looking to recruit an experienced Senior / Lead Design Engineer. Reporting to the Technical Manager, the main purpose of this role will be to produce the design aspects of winning engineering proposals and bids for various projects.

The Role

• To prepare, develop, produce and check temporary works, formwork, falsework, shoring / propping systems, scaffolding and structural engineering designs to suit contract requirements
• Ensure that all designs are deployed effectively, economically and in accordance with all appropriate regulations and specifications to allow the company to minimise risks and maximise profits on contracts
• Provide design guidance and support to operational delivery teams
• Represent the design department at all levels within the business including client meetings
• To provide high quality Engineering Designs to allow the company to minimise risks and maximise sub-programme gain share
• Provide design solutions that meet all of the requirements of the contract and clients requirements
• Produce design documents which are cost effective, meet the requirements of the specification and which can be purchased, installed and commissioned effectively. The term ‘cost’ is to embrace all costs associated with the design and the subsequent construction of the design. To be cost effective the whole out turn cost of the design solution must be considered including design time costs, material costs, erection costs and any impact that the design solution might have on other disciplines
• Ensure that standard designs and design practices are utilised wherever possible
• Produce outlined designs on all contracts
• Attend internal design meetings
• Liaise with other design disciplines
• Carry out surveys at site visits
• Attend design meetings with Clients
• Review and approve / comment on sub-contractor designs
• Gain approval of designs from Clients
• Ensure the Company Procedures are fully implemented
• Ensure designs produced and those of Sub-contractors meet the requirements of the
• Ensure designs produced and those of Sub-contractors are in accordance with all
appropriate regulations
• Champion design Health and Safety
• Ensure a safe working environment for all staff
• Implement latest H & S regulations and legislation
• Reduce waste to a minimum from all departmental activities
• Ensure designs are within budget and produce the best overall outcome for the business

The Person

• Self-reliable working with comprehensive project responsibility
• Long-term strategic thinking
• Working experience in the design / drawing of temporary works, formwork, falsework, shoring / propping systems, scaffolding and / or general structural engineering
• A relevant qualification / certification in Engineering, or practical industry experience
• Experience in AutoCAD (or similar programs)
• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
• The ability to learn quickly and to work independently
• Outstanding organisation skills
