Job Description

  • Commodity group purchase steel and castings, focused on GT part and supplier portfolio

  • Active contribution of cost reduction programs and growth programs with new projects (e.g. Daimler 2020)

  • Yearly price negotiations of serial products

  • Negotiation and contract design in coordination with the superior Category Manager

  • Creating of the Total Cost Comparison including supplier recommendation

  • Creating of Sourcing Boards presentation and presentation of a suitable decision

  • Compliance with an implementation of purchasing processes including formal framework conditions

  • Orientation of all measures and decisions to purchasing management KPIs

  • Purchase responsibly for selected suppliers including price negotiations and target agreements (Supplier Host)

  • Benchmark surveys on the purchasing volume in order to deduce savings potential and supplier strategy

  • Central linking point of GT between the Centre Of Competence Purchasing and the Knorr-Bremse Global Category Purchasing Team

  • Functional reporting to the Regional Category Manager Castings

  • Will be measured on cost savings, delivery performance and parts per million

  • Will have no responsibility for direct or operational personnel


  • Must have had at least 3 years' experience in an automotive buyer background and be familiar with ductile iron castings, automated disamatic casting processes and investment castings

  • Must have a commercial and/or technical degree with a good understanding of materials

  • Must have had at least 3 years' experience of working in a similar role

  • Must be computer literate with a very good knowledge in the use of MS-Office, SAP and SRM

  • Must have very good English skills (oral and written)

  • Must have knowledge of purchase methods and tools as well as project management


  • Must be able to travel widely throughout the world to visit suppliers for GT and KB

  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Must have the ability to work in an international team and be able to work well with all colleagues

  • Must be an ambitious self-starter

  • Must have an analytical approach to your daily work

  • Must have excellent interpersonal and Intercultural skills to enable you to work all over the world

  • Must be reliable and trustworthy
