Located in Sheffield, we are currently working alongside an established and growing engineering firm, who due to sustained growth are now looking to appoint a Purchasing and Estimating Engineer.

Reporting to the Finance Director, the Purchasing & Estimating Engineer shall be responsible for translating clients RFQ's into detailed cost estimates and performing all of the company's purchasing activity. Such activity shall always be set around delivering the business's aspiration to develop the best people in a safety first, stable working environment, upholding the key principles of innovation, supreme quality and exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities

1 Assessment and translation of a clients RFQ or design concept into a detailed cost estimate to inform the bidding process. This will involve;

- Coordination of a pre bid cross-functional peer group to inform make or buy decisions & ensure compliant bids

- Collation of all raw material prices to the required specifcations

- Use of the company's norms to establish accurate equipment manufacturing times.

1 Timely presentation of a consistent and detailed cost estimate for approval to use in the bidding process.
2 Planning for the timely arrival/execution of all of the company's materials and sub contract activities. This will involve preparation/execution of requisitions (where not generated elsewhere) and purchase orders as required.
3 Expediting purchase orders and RFQs.
4 Selecting and developing new and existing suppliers.
5 Ownership of & compliance with existing, purchasing and estimating based procedures as laid down by the business's HSE&Q Management Systems. This, among other activities, will involve maintaining and developing the company's existing approved vendors list.
6 Participation in associated meetings and provision of relevant management reports as required.


The flexible, dynamic, results driven and computer literate candidate will have a proven track record (5 years minimum) in the development of accurate and detailed costings in a manufacturing environment. Preferably in the fabrication of bespoke pressure/heat transfer equipment for the process and power industries. Furthermore, demonstrable experience and knowledge of the particular material requirements in international codes, standards and practices such as ASME, ASTM, RCC-M, EN13445, NORSOK, PD5500, PED 97/EC/23 etc, will be a significant benefit.


* 5 x GCSE's at grade C or above (including mathematics, English and 1 x science)

* 2 x A Levels at grade C or above (including mathematics)

* A bachelor's degree

* CIPS (advanced certificate or higher)

* A basic certificate from any of the following ASPE, AACE or the ICEAA
