Payroll Team Lead- Newcastle

Currently recruiting for a Payroll Team Lead, the role will report into the Payroll Process Manager.

The Payroll Team Lead is responsible for ensuring that the employees are paid without issues thereby maintaining a good relationship with the employees. The 15,000 workforce comprises a mix of full time monthly staff, part time staff, temporary payments and overtime. Data is received from 110 sites with 170 T&Cs and many different sick schemes. There are a number of systems in use including Payfact, Oracle R12 Payroll with an interface to CIPHR the HR system.

Main Responsibilities:
To maintain effective procedures and processes to ensure absolute accuracy of wages and salaries and in line with agreed SLAs.
Lead a team in the operation of the payroll processes with adequate process controls and segregation of duties
Review all HMRC returns in line with regulatory requirements and submit to manager for authorisation;Prepare all statutory payments for authorization
Hold a good working knowledge of payroll processes, legislation and compliance requirements
Operate in line with payroll procedures and processes including:
Entering starters and leavers
Timesheet input
Pay Production
Earnings Enquiries
Absence Administration
Statutory and Voluntary deductions from pay
Statutory payments
Loading of Interface files
Liaison with HR as appropriate
Ensure the requisite transactions are processed in the pension scheme;
Complete payroll accounting entries and prepare and scrutinise the payroll journals;
Prepare, check and load the interface files;
Prepare monthly management reports;
Ensure all process documentation/operating procedures are up to date.
Liaison with HR as required and support the Payroll Manager;
Query resolution- Resolving queries from employees relating to payroll and pensions, communicating within and outside the Payroll Team;
Resolving issues and recognising when to escalate
Identify opportunities for process improvement liaising productively with the Performance Development and Improvement team;
Encourage the team to identify opportunities for improvement;
Identify training and development needs for the team
Identify opportunities for continuous process improvements
Deliver agreed improvement initiatives as and when required;
Provide high standards of customer service, consistency with service levels agreements and operational compliance;
Balance the workload across the team
Identify training and development needs for the team
Ensure all process documentation/operating procedures are up to date

Have a good working knowledge of payroll processes, legislation and compliance requirements;
Experience in operating in a Payroll team in a transaction processing environment
Technical expertise in Payroll legislation
Excellent management and administration skills
Excellent team player being mutually supportive
Good communication skills
Good data entry speeds
Strong IT skills
Interface Systems to providers e.g. pension systems, flexible benefits
SAP ECC Desirable
