Commercial Underwriting Assistant

Full Time Maternity Contract
Start as soon as possible and will run until 23rd March 2018 regardless of start date.

My client is a leading and expanding motor insurance group who are renowned for their staff reward and recognition. We are looking for an Underwriting Assistant to assist the Commercial department with existing business and renewal enquiries by phone and email using multiple software platforms, as well as providing excellent customer service to our Commercial brokers.


• Assist the Department's Underwriters with the underwriting and administration of Property, Liability and other commercial business in accordance with the Department's Underwriting Guidelines, Company Procedures and within the job holder's written Underwriting Authority.
• Using the Underwriting systems to deliver new and renewal quotations, policy documentation and mid-term adjustments (as directed by the Department's Underwriters) to brokers in line with Company standards and expectations.
• Undertake initial investigative work in relation to indemnity decisions prior to their referral to the Unit Heads, Divisional Head or Deputy.
• Assist with all market research projects from the Underwriting teams.
• Deal with telephone enquiries effectively and efficiently.
• Deal with email and other written enquiries effectively and efficiently.
• Resolve Accounts queries in line with Company guidelines.
• Accurately process new business, mid-term adjustments, extranet referrals and diaries.
• Accurately process Declinature details.


• Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
• Good working relationships with other members of staff
• Good negotiation Skills.
• Well organised and able to adhere to tight timescales
• Microsoft Office
• Word and Excel - Intermediate

Qualifications/Desirable Skills:

• Underwriting knowledge and understanding of commercial insurance products and principles desired but not essential
• Cert CII/ insurance experience would be preferable but not necessary
• Be able to use a range of software and be happy learning to use new software
• I90 - Good
• Software House/Bespoke Systems - Basic

Salary is between £16,000 -£18,000 dependant on experience
