DevOps Platform Engineer:: £50K-£70K + Benefits & Bonus

If you are a first class DevOps Engineer comfortable working in an Agile environment looking to work with a number of exciting clients in a broad range of industry sectors such as financial services, retail and telecommunications and comfortable working in a consultancy environment with some travel to client sites then please read on…


- You will be required to work in a hybrid environment where you will operate in multiple functions Project Manager, Service manager, Development Manager and Consultant all wrapped into one.
- Day-to-day responsibility for technical aspects of a project, both with internally with my client and on site with their clients.
- Leading the field of Development and Operations understanding the full effect of cutting edge technology solutions and the overall result on the client.
- Managing, supporting, maintaining and improving the project’s infrastructure, automation, continuous integration system and application release process.
- Bridging the gap between operations and development.
- Supporting knowledge transfer by assisting other members of the team.
- Customer facing delivery, deployment and running of new technical solutions.

The suitable candidate with have the following:

- In depth knowledge of virtualisation platforms and cloud orchestration technologies such as AWS, VSphere, vDirector, Xenserver, Xen, Cloudstack and Openstack.  Experience with building systems in an autoscaling environment including Self-Healing systems
- String Cloud experience and background
- Commercial awareness of managing complex multi-tier enterprise infrastructure environments.
- Detailed configuration management, automation and scripting skills including use of a scripting language such as Python or Ruby, proficiency with shell scripting.
- Platform - and application automated deployment technologies (Ansible, Terraform, Cobbler, Puppet, Chef, Tivoli Provisioning Manager.
- Agile/iterative development methodologies (SCRUM,KANAN XP, DSDM, RUP etc.)
- Exposure to continuous integration and build tools (e.g. Jenkins, TeamCity).
- Use of source code version control (e.g. git, subversion).
- First class Linux/Unix system administration skills with a bias towards RedHat Enterprise Linux versions 6 and 7.
- Decent database knowledge and SQL skills (on an enterprise database such as Oracle or EnterpriseDB).
- Solid understanding of infrastructure and application security including Cross Site Scripting attacks and SQL injection attacks and the use of a WAF.  Understanding of OWASP objectives and requirements.

Beneficial to have:

- Configuration of firewalls, load balancers and other network equipment.
- Knowledge of application servers such as WebSphere, WebLogic or JBOSS.
- Microsoft .NET technologies and Windows system administration.
- Exposure to planning with Disaster Recovery.
