An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Finance Assistant to work on a Temporary assignment for a large public sector organisation, based in Durham. This role is to start on 19th June and ongoing initially until 22nd December (6 months). Working week is Monday - Friday 8:30am - 4:30pm and wage is between £7.50 - £8.00, depending on experience. This job role includes:

• To provide a responsive, efficient and effective administrative support to the Assessment and Awards service.

• To assist in the financial assessment process for the charging for Adult Social Care and in the managing of service users financing where Appointee and Deputy-ship has been taken on by the Council.

• To assist the Assessment and Awards Service to achieve excellence in its services to its customers, both internal and external.

• Contribute to the delivery of service standards, quality and performance targets for the Assessment and Awards service in accordance with the Council’s Aims and Objectives.

• To provide an efficient and effective support service to the Assessment and Awards service.

• Assist with the financial assessment process, including the arranging of appointments, collation and validation of service user information where required.

• Assist with the annual re-assessment process.

• Adopt a problem solving approach to enquiries from members of the public and other service users

• Assist with the management of service users finances where Appointee and Deputyship has been taken on by the Council, including protection of property and carrying out regular financial inspections on household and service users financial records in Supported Housing and the Shared Lives Service.

• Ensuring information is accurately stored and retrieved from the Services computerised and paper information systems, including the scanning and referencing of Assessment and Award documentation when required

• Maintain financial records and produce statistical information as requested and in accordance with the finance and accounts procedures.

•Contribute to continuous improvement activities in order to improve service delivery and professional development

• To be aware of all legislation and procedures which impact on service activity.

• The above is not exhaustive and the post holder will be expected to undertake any duties which may reasonably fall within the level of responsibility and the competence of the post as directed by the Head of Service.

The successful candidate must:

• Have previous experience in a similar role
• Have a relevant NVQ Level 2/3 or equivalent
• Be able to operate on line computer systems
• Have good IT skills
• Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Have ability to manage and prioritise own workload and ensure tasks are completed accurately and within the prescribed timescales
• Have excellent administrative skills
