We are currently recruiting for a Band 8A Data Warehouse Manager/Senior BI Developer in one of our NHS clients in the North West.

To provide expert strategic and operational technical management and development of data systems and services ensuring the availability of high quality information, performance management and monitoring systems to support managers and clinicians at all levels of the organisation. To provide a highly specialist technical lead resource developing and supporting business intelligence and other information systems and services, and undertaking highly complex systems development, data exchange and data migration projects, critical to business continuity.


Responsible for:

•Full technical and asset management of a range of critical corporate data and database resources (primarily in Microsoft SQL Server), in particular the Trust data warehouse used for corporate information analysis and reporting

•Interpreting and defining technical information and performance management requirements in both clinical and management areas, and development of a robust architecture to meet identified needs;

•Contributing to database administrator (dba) functions for all main corporate reporting database systems, working collaboratively with other technical specialists to ensure system availability, robust security, back-up and data recovery arrangements and integrity of data across linked systems.

•Developing and maintaining highly complex automated data processing, data exchange and business intelligence applications using the full Microsoft SQL Server stack and a range of other professional development and data management tools, with a particular focus on importing, categorising and presenting data within the Trust’s SQL Server data warehouse for reporting, business intelligence and performance management purposes.

•Providing technical expert capability to pro-actively resolve issues, and assisting with support and development issues as required, using high levels of knowledge and experience.

•Managing and/or providing professional leadership to directly employed, contract and student systems integration staff, and coordinating their project and support workload.

•Identifying, specifying, planning and implementing a range of highly complex technical systems development projects.

•Research and development of new methods and practices in business intelligence development, data exchange and database systems management, assessing for applicability within the Trust and implementing as appropriate

•Pro-active monitoring, and instigating procedures to ensure continuous and reliable information systems availability;

•Managing allocated project budgets, and monitoring supplier performance and Service Level Agreement

•Graduate or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant subject, i.e. ICT.

•Master Level qualification or relevant experience working at this level

•Evidence of continuing postgraduate professional development

•Highly developed specialist knowledge of data warehousing and business intelligence development, supported by significant relevant practical experience in developing and managing complex or largescale data management functionality

•Clear understanding and detailed working knowledge of data structures and data warehousing techniques

•Sound current technical appreciation of web technologies and application development tools and techniques

•Demonstrable and substantial experience of writing and using complex T-SQL or SQL code in a practical setting

•Appreciation of Data Protection and confidentiality issues.

•Detailed working knowledge of MS SQL Server 2005/2008, including Integration and Analysis Services

•Proficient in Transact-SQL / SQL (functions & stored procedures)

•Advanced user of professional office software, including spreadsheets, and databases

•Ability to understand and interpret highly complex system and data specifications

•Able to produce clear technical documentation


•Microsoft Chartered System Engineer

•Computing/ systems qualification

•Understanding of NHS data standards, structures and reference data files.

•Experience of the full Microsoft business intelligence stack

•Experience of developing interactive web pages

•Experience of largescale data cleansing and data migration projects

•Supervisory experience

•Experience of manipulating complex data to produce automated reports.

•Project Management experience

•Knowledge of Data Academy software

•Database administration using Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008

•MDX programming skills

•SQL Server Reporting Services

•Experience with the .NET Framework

•Advanced skills in HTML, DHTML, JavaScript, Active Server Pages and CSS
