Our Client, a provider of training, skills, recruitment & consultancy for growth, are on the lookout for a highly competent Functional Skills Specialist Lead to join our rapidly expanding business.

The role of a Functional Skills Specialist Lead is a hands-on, highly visible position designed to impact on a broad range of learners' English and Maths outcomes. The person in this role will be instrumental not only in making a difference to the lives of learners but also in increasing the standards and reputation of the industry.

The role of the functional skills lead is to ensure the company delivers an efficient and effective English and maths offer to learners and employers.

Day to day duties will include the following:
• Working with the Quality and Learning team to ensure that staff development in respect of functional skills delivery is responsive to needs and that Functional skills specialists can provide developmental support to TLM’s
• Liaising with the Functional Skills Specialists: Co-ordinating standardisation activities and disseminating best practice; undertaking developmental observations or co-ordinating observations; leading, building and providing technical support;
• Liaising regularly with respective management: preparing company reports; support staff development activities in relation to English and maths delivery, providing resources, materials and access to training; taking part in continuous professional development, including completion of own qualifications where required
• Liaising regularly with the Head of Quality: providing information, advice and guidance in respect of the company English and Maths offer and recommending suitable alternatives for learners who have entry 1 and low entry level 2 initial assessment results; completing and maintaining all regulatory and financial paperwork; designing and delivering English and Maths workshops for delivery staff;
• Reviewing materials: include initial assessment and diagnostic tools to be utilised by the company; making recommendations for the purchase of resources that will support Functional skills attainment; signing off all training materials prior to issue; championing the correct use of diagnostic tools in order to achieve maximum efficiency in terms of programme delivery.
• Delivering outstanding teaching and learning of knowledge across all functional skill components: coaching learners who require additional learning support and training interventions to achieve positive test results; mentoring and coaching learners where diagnostic results or practice test results or fail rates determine specialist teaching is required; mentoring and coaching Functional skills specialists where observations of teaching practice indicate additional support is required; ensuring all Functional Skills specialists and TLM’s have access to all materials and resources required to deliver Functional skills effectively; marketing the benefits of functional skills attainments to learners, employers and company staff
• Your performance will be measured on the outcome of your activities, quality of delivery and your contribution to the success of the business. You will have regular meetings with your Manager to discuss specific priorities and deliverables and to receive feedback. Ensuring the Client utilises the most current teaching, assessment and quality assurance practices in relation to English and maths delivery
• A secondary aspect of the role is to support and augment the functional skills delivery of Trainer/Assessors and Functional Skills Specialists. You will be using a variety of teaching and assessing techniques to ensure that the highest standards of bespoke training are offered. Hands-on and out in the field working with our learners and employers in their places of work, you will be responsible for supporting a caseload of learners through their qualifications. Qualifications will include accredited Apprenticeships both frameworks and the new standards.

As a person you will need the following qualities and experience:
• Assessing and/or teaching qualifications – TAQA and level 5 teaching qualification essential
• Minimum of 4 years’ experience with delivering English and Maths in a vocational work-based learning setting
• Experience of organising own schedules and working to targets; delivering on a 1 to 1 basis and to groups of learners; working with learners who require additional learning support
• Excellent practical and theoretical knowledge of English and Maths delivery
• Industry specific qualifications- to support embedding and contextualising of English and Maths
• Presentation, Communication, Project Management, and Data Analysis skills
• Good IT skills – working level of knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, other MIS and databases
• Possess and prove persistence to see a job through to the end
