Engineering Team Leader
4 on 4 off days and nights

The role; To help manage, develop and lead the site engineering team in the delivery of effective engineering support and maintenance activity in line with business requirements.

Key Performance Indicators
• Equipment downtime
• Completion of planned maintenance activities
• Equipment appearance and condition
• Machine and plant improvements

Key Accountabilities
• Supervision and co-ordination of Maintenance Engineers
• Deputise as necessary for the Engineering and Facilities Manager
• Communicate effectively to all levels of management to prioritise work

Main objectives and responsibilities
• Oversee running of the system on a day-to-day basis
• To ensure work is carried out in accordance to good practice, legislations and company standards
• Maintain plant to reduce downtime
• Organise and order spares to reduce equipment downtime
• Ensure completion of planned maintenance activities
• Perform and coordinate mechanical and electrical planned and scheduled maintenance activities ensuring completion within set schedules and high levels of engineering standards are maintained in all aspects.
• Keep maintenance software up to date
• Identify and implement improvements in equipment maintainability and reliability
• Proactively perform and coordinate continuous improvement modifications and use continuous improvement tools to optimise production. Adapt maintenance tools and procedures to improve equipment reliability
• Diagnose plant and equipment problems and undertake mechanical and electrical repairs alongside production needs
• Coordinate the Engineering team in order to schedule and prioritise maintenance activities including breakdowns and planned activities
• Ensure effective communication with Engineering team to ensure technical knowledge related to all equipment is passed freely between all shifts
• Prepare information and documentation related to assets and take responsibility for new Engineer’s training and development
• Liaise with and organise suppliers and contractors with regard to support and services
• Keep up-to-date with the latest equipment, technologies and maintenance methods
• Ensure risk assessments are up-to-date and relevant to the activities being performed
• Abide by all statutory requirements including those relating to HR and health and safety
• Adhere to and promote all Company policies and procedures including those relating to HR and health and safety

Person Specification

1. Knowledge and experience required
• Approved Apprenticeship
• Previous experience working on automated handling systems
• Siemens PLC, profibus/asi communications
• Working at heights is essential
• An understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics

2. Skills and competencies

• Ability to read electrical and mechanical drawing
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Excellent problem solving & fault diagnosis skills
• Ability to plan and organise work schedules between production requirements
• Ability to remain calm when under pressure
• Ability to work on own initiative is imperative

3. Qualifications:
• Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship
• City & Guilds 16th / 17th Edition
• Qualified to C&G/BTEC standard in Electrical Engineering
• Awareness of working environment
