Materials Buyer

My client, a prestigious automotive manufacturer based in Swindon is looking for a Materials Buyer. They require people at different levels to operate within a team focussed buying environment. As a successful candidate you will be responsible for negotiating the costs, focusing on manufacturing best practice, VA/VE and exchange rate analysis etc.

You'll be part of a dedicated procurement team that is split between various sections, each responsible for direct procurement of essential commodities required to enable production of our award winning Civic. As a Materials Buyer you will be responsible for Raw material contract management of Steel & Aluminium for direct supply to the company and Level one suppliers.

You will have the support of some very dedicated procurement professionals and you'll be learning skills that are unique within the Automotive industry. For example; Our attention to detail and continuous improvement programmes often set us apart from other Automotive companies.

Main responsibilities:

The buyer is Responsible for Raw material contract management of Steel & Aluminium for direct supply to the company and Level one suppliers. This includes:
* Supporting strategic souring for new model projects and approval of Materials application from various suppliers or manufacturing locations
* Cost negotiation for periodic price revisions of suppliers for company controlled materials, including scrap pricing and management of Monthly Material supplier TQM results (QCD management)
* Support monthly TQM of vehicle cost (For the above) within the procurement division
Desirable Skills:
* Extensive experience in high value contracts
* Proven track record of supplier management, including evidence of effective negotiation skills
* Strong communication and relationship management at all levels
* Demonstrate the ability to manage multiple priorities and identify key focus elements through a logical approach
* Self-motivated with a flexible and proactive approach to work unsupervised with a team
* Advanced working knowledge of MS Office
* Knowledge of SAP systems would be an advantage

It would advantageous to have:

* Degree in Business related function
* CIPS qualification or working towards
* Understand and apply the tools and techniques to close cost gaps and achieve value for money whilst maintaining supplier relationships
* Understanding of how a cost of manufactured part is derived (key cost drivers).
