Permanent Teacher of Geography | September 2017 start
Teacher of Geography
Dates: Apply ASAP, Job Start September 2017
Salary: Inner London Pay Scale MPS/UPS
Contract type: Full Time
Contract term: Permanent
We are looking to appoint a determined and dynamic individual, committed to driving up standards in Geography. Applications are welcomed from both experienced and newly qualified teachers.
At Stratford School Academy pupils enjoy their Geography lessons and understand the opportunities that achieving well in Geography can offer. The teacher we are looking for will be able to teach Geography to years 7 to 9 and up to GCSE. We understand that a GCSE in Geography is a key enabler in accessing the best colleges and universities and this is why we are committed to building a strong team of Geography teachers. We are an expanding school and in September 2015 we admitted our first 300 strong Year 7 cohort. Over the next five years we will grow to 1500 pupils. We are a split site school and operate as two 'mini schools' both educating pupils from Year 7 to 11.
Stratford School Academy is ambitious: we are expanding, have new buildings, have improved our teacher workforce both in terms of readiness and capacity, and the 'mini school' approach is innovative. We ask ourselves: what is an ambitious but potentially achievable academic target that, if we did achieve it, would allow us to say with confidence that we are providing our pupils with a top quality education? Our aim is to see 75% of our pupils achieving 5 A*- C EnMa by 2017. In 2015 we achieved 68% 5A*-C EnMa (up from 54% last year) and so 75% is well within our reach.
We have a very clear approach to our work which is to focus our efforts on what educational research (as opposed to fashion) tells us will really make a difference to student outcomes. We are going about implementing this plan through extending systematic shared practice and developing teacher expertise through deliberate practice.
If you think this might be the job for you then you should come in and meet us, see the buildings, hear more about what we do and how we do it. If you do want to visit please call Anna Mason on . We know that it can be difficult to get out of school and so we can be flexible with times and dates.
At Stratford School Academy you will find:
- Access to CPD programmes based on progressively introducing proven high impact teaching strategies and techniques through systematic shared practice
- Teaching loads are less here than in most schools
- Comprehensive schemes of work and guidelines to make planning and teaching good lessons as easy as possible.
- A good working environment: good resources, classrooms and work areas
- Motivated pupils and parents who support the school (see the responses to the parental surveys on our website)
- The chance to be part of a hard-working group of teachers who are serious about maximising the achievement of our pupils and are willing to go the extra mile to make it happen
- In our annual survey 94% of our staff said they were proud to be a member of staff here
