This market leading marine engineering and shipbuilding business is going from strength to strength and looking to grow the business to the next level by appointing a Head of Sales.

Our Client:
The business has been building ships on Clydeside for over 100 years and is now going through a period of sustained growth. Having been bought a number of years ago the business has an impressive management team that is now looking to drive growth across the UK and Europe.

The company employees nearly 400 members of staff at the Head Office and Manufacturing site. With over £10m of recent investment in technology and infrastructure the company are able to deliver world class shipbuilding, ship repair, fabrication and retrofit engineering services. The business continuously invests in its facilities, technology and people and has had some major recent successes. There is a healthy order book in the near future but as the company grows they are looking to cement their place in Clydeside’s history and their reputation in the world market.

Role:
This Head of Sales role reports directly into the Managing Director you will be responsible for building upon the foundations of the company to generate new work the business can tender and bid for across shipbuilding, ship repair, fabrication and retrofit. You will be given the chance to build a successful sales team that will assist you in helping to grow the business organically.

As part of the management team, you will be responsible for establishing a strong customer base and healthy pipeline of enquiries for all areas of business, for supporting cost estimation and tender preparation, monitoring and updating the status of live projects and understanding and identifying resource requirements to deliver projects. As Head of Sales you will also oversee the development of high quality presentation materials to communicate the business capability and for promoting the profile of the company through all other appropriate methods. 

What we are looking for:
Due to the nature of this Head of Sales position the ideal candidate will have good interpersonal skills, an entrepreneurial nature, specific experience from a shipbuilding, ship repair, retrofitting and fabrication background in a production and/or manufacturing environment, teamed with a technical background in Engineering.

This is a challenging role which will require demonstrable experience and success within a similar role and industry. You will also have excellent and proven experience of shipbuilding and ideally (highly desirable) you will have experience of working with the Ministry of Defence. You will demonstrate key communication skills and the ability to present confidently and with credibility.

Experience within the marine or shipbuilding sector is paramount and is required.

Key Responsibilities include:
• To undertake research into potential new customers to maximise potential.
• To maximise the additional business opportunities with our existing customer base and maintain existing customer levels
• To take full responsibility for the day to day account management and ownership of existing and new customers, following on from incoming enquiries, leads identified by the business development function and in some cases combined initial visits.
• To act as the customers’ representative within the company. Resolve any customer issues by working with the internal Management Teams and ensure long term improvements are put in place.
• To plan and execute successful sales visits, leading to the ability to tender/bid for the services offered including new build, repair and retrofit by the prospective customers.
• To follow up on incoming enquiries to the business and proposals submitted, and their conversion into profitable orders that meet the business development strategy.
• To produce and deliver budget and sales forecast from these activities to assist in your own and the businesses planning needs.
• To advise the Management Team of the effective actions arising out of customer visits, reporting on sales activities and results, via the submission of customer contact/market reports and verbal reports.
