Cubiq Recruitment are representing a business that design & manufacture high precision automated equipment

We are currently looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their engineering team to support new and on-going projects in the UK. You will demonstrate a high level of energy and enthusiasm with a passion for engineering design and problem solving.

There will be good opportunity for you to progress within the company, assuming more responsibility within the department and eventually progressing into a leading role on high profile projects. On occasions you will be expected to travel overseas in order to visit customers and suppliers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

* Assist with the implementation of design and departmental working procedures within the mechanical design department.
* Design, detail and assist with the build & installation of a range of mechanical items to include:

* Precision machined components, assemblies and moving mechanisms.
* Machine structures to include welded metal frames and granite structures.
* Machine enclosures and covers involving sheet metal fabrications and injection moulded components
* Material handling devices such as automatic loaders and reel to reel equipment.

* Deliver as part of a small team the full life cycle of a project to include:

* Creation & maintenance of project design documentation to include product design specifications, bills of materials, input into project schedules, task lists & task planning etc…
* Carry out and document appropriate calculations required for correct design and component selection.
* Generate and present to colleagues and clients conceptual designs & ideas Conduct design reviews with colleagues, manufacturers and customers.
* Generate detailed 3D CAD models and 2D manufacturing & assembly drawings
* Liaise with purchasers, vendors & manufacturers throughout the design, procurement and manufacture cycle (involves overseas travel).
* Raise internal purchase requests for components using internal MRP systems.
* Hands on assembly, test and modification of designed equipment.
* Assistance with the installation of equipment at customer sites if required.

Essential Skills and Experience:

* Strong 3D modelling skills and the ability to produce detailed manufacturing drawings
* Minimum 5 years' experience designing precision mechanical components, assemblies and machinery using a range of different and appropriate materials and manufacturing techniques.
* Ability to produce accurate and correctly dimensioned/toleranced manufacturing drawings is essential.
* Proven experience designing mechanisms is a must
* Proven practical skills required for assembly of completed designs and use basic workshop equipment is essential.
* Hands on approach with strong sense of task ownership and responsibility.
* Able to work as part of a team working closely and cooperatively with other engineers, senior management and external contractors whilst able to also work independently without supervision.
