I am working with a growing company in Tonbridge who are looking for a Purchasing Manager to join their team on a permanent basis.   You will be responsible for sourcing equipment, goods and services and managing vendors, ensuring OTIF delivery to our customers at the right quality.

Main Responsibilities:


- Develop, lead and execute the procurement & purchasing strategy in line with the strategy and quality expectations of the business.

- Forecast levels of demand for products to meet the business needs and keep a constant check on stock levels.

- Liaise between suppliers, manufacturers, relevant internal departments to deliver to our customer expectations.

- Track and report key functional metrics to reduce expenses and improve effectiveness of the supply chain.

- Manage and Coach two assistant purchasers support the personal and professional development of team members to enhance their performance

- Negotiate and agree contracts and SLAs; monitor progress, checking the quality of service provided.

- Management static data in ERP system.

- Assess the sourcing options for supplies of products or services establishing the capability of suppliers and the supply chain

- Ensure supplier relationship management processes are proactively executed and create and implement improvement plans to correct defective performance to improve performance and service levels of suppliers

- Encourage innovation in the supply chain and report on the development of innovation in supply chains

- Lead cross-functional projects within area of responsibility.

The successful applicant will have a proven track record in a similar role and a relevant procurement qualification (preferably CIPS) is desirable but not essential. You will have a good level of education, be technically competent with good commercial acumen. Graduate applicants with suitable experience or interests will also be considered.

Your skills:

The successful candidate for the role will be able to demonstrate:

- Purchasing Professional with 3+ years experience in a supply chain based management role; .C.I.P.S qualification desirable.

- Ability to communicate, collaborate and negotiate both internally and externally

- Ability to manage stock and associated supply chain activities effectively and efficiently and in line with budget.

- Excellent problem solving and analytical ability.

- Management, support and professional development of team members to enhance their performance.

- High degree of commercial awareness, demonstrated through experiences and knowledge of purchasing

- Expert working knowledge of MS Office, in particular MS Excel, working knowledge of ERP systems (SAP/SAGE/SysPro)

- Being open and flexible to change seeing it as an opportunity

- European languages will be favourably considered


- Reviewing existing processes and implementing new systems to streamline procedures and make the company more efficient.

- Establish, maintain and develop effective working relationships with colleagues, customers and suppliers.

- Understand drivers of customer satisfaction and strive to improve customer experiences.

- Undertake other reasonable duties as defined by the Purchasing & Planning Manager.
