An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Paralegal, ideally with some Employment Law experience but not essential, to join this well-known membership organisation based in central London. This could either be a part-time or full time Paralegal position and would suit a Paralegal looking to gain experience within Employment Law in the Healthcare or Medical sector. The main purpose of the Paralegal role is to provide the full range of Paralegal administration support to the Memberships Employment Counsel assisting members with employment law enquiries.

Job title: Paralegal - Employment

Salary: £23k. Plus excellent benefits

Report to: Legal and Regulatory Director and Employment Counsel

Main duties and responsibilities

  • assist with telephone and email enquiries and provide appropriate and timely responses

  • assist in preparation of follow-up advice including drafting written documentation and correspondence

  • take an active role in preparation for internal disciplinary and grievance hearings

  • undertake note-taking during calls or meetings were requested

  • take an active role in preparation for tribunal hearings

  • provide comprehensive administrative support to the employment counsel and legal team

  • carry out legal research and used to prepare succinct and practical responses

  • assist with preparing know-how materials and presentations, articles, updates and amendments and additions to the AOP website

Person specification

The following knowledge, skills and experience are essential

  • Law degree or equivalent conversion qualification

  • Experience of assisting solicitors with casework, legal research and hearing preparation and dealing with telephone and email enquiries in an in-house legal department or in private practice

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Organised and methodical approach with strong attention to detail

  • Very good IT and administrative support skills

  • Ability to work to deadlines and prioritise completing tasks

  • Proficient legal research, summarise information and tailoring advice to fit the members needs

  • Team player, willing to help others and share information and knowledge

  • Uses initiative to deliver best results

  • Clear appreciation of the need for integrity and confidentiality

  • Good understanding of employment law and procedure

  • Experience of working in an employment law department
