Reed Accountancy are delighted to be working on behalf of a family run independent department store located in Sudbury Suffolk. They are looking for a Finance Manger to work on a permanent basis. This is a varied role, within a busy, high volume environment, which requires good organisational skills and a need to prioritise tasks. This role will cover all transactional accounts, month end reporting and preparing accounts at year end for presentation to the external audit Accountants.

Duties and responsibilities include;

• Prepare monthly payroll using Sage payroll (training available for Sage Payroll)
• Keep accurate records of hours worked and absences for all staff
• Answer any queries from staff concerning payroll
• Manage the purchase ledger and transfer payments to settle outstanding creditors on a fortnightly basis
• Prepare quarterly VAT returns and assist the VAT Inspector with information on his visits
• Manage the Accounts Assistant and two part time Cashiers
• Reconcile all nominal ledger control accounts on a monthly basis
• Prepare and post monthly depreciation journals
• Adjust the stock valuation on a monthly basis, posting all relevant markdowns where appropriate
• Advise the directors on a monthly basis of the details of their drawings accounts
• Prepare accruals & prepayments schedules on a monthly basis and monthly management accounts
• Prepare and update monthly forecasted P & Ls for the next financial year
• Prepare and maintain accurate short term cash flow projections
• Provide reports to our Concession Partners, calculate amounts due and post invoices
• Monitor the bank/building society accounts on a daily basis
• Maintain a manual cash book and post all items onto accounting system
• Reconcile accounting system to the bank statements on a weekly basis
• Directors/Bank are informed well in advance if the bank balance is going to fall below agreed limits
• Prepare various ad-hoc reports as requested by the Directors or Buyers
• Continually look to improve processes and reduce costs where possible, i.e. negotiate utilities contracts & insurance renewals etc
• Prepare various reports in advance of the year-end audit, to ensure the auditors spend as little time as possible in performing the audit
• Prepare and distribute shop floor sales targets
• Provide advice and support to shop floor and office staff
