90 learners here 20-30 LSWs in Brighton19-25 year old with complex needs hereuse SSTS rather than Team teach and run courses every 3 weeks themselves

Reed Education is assisting a College for learners with SEN recruit for a Speech and Language Therapist to join their team and report into the Lead Speech and Language Therapist.  There are 90 students with Complex Needs, Autism, MLD, PMLD and SLD here.

You will have responsibility for delivering an effective and efficient Speech and Language therapy service for the School and College sites.  You will also have the opportunity to participate in future developments and promoting the speech and language therapy at the school and college.  You will communicate assessments for new referrals and admissions and be responsible for your own case load.

Duties will include:

To maintain an agreed caseload and carrying out appropriate assessments, define treatment goals, plan and provide appropriate treatment using individual, joint and group therapy as appropriate.

To integrate and monitor treatment programmes in the students environment, whether it be carried out by speech and language therapy, care, education or therapy staff in school/college or at home by parents/carers.

Use a problem solving approach to establish aims and objectives for individuals, measure outcomes, evaluate and review Speech and Language Therapy input.

To promote a Total Communication environment, enabling learners to develop their preferred mode, assisting and providing resources as appropriate to promote functional communication skills and independence.

Establish effective communication and liaison with other Therapy, Education and Care staff members involved in learner referral and management.

Establish effective communication and liaison with family/carers of learners accessing the Speech & Language Therapy service.

To integrate and monitor treatment programmes whether delivered by care, education, parents or carers.

To integrate as fully as possible into the classroom or environment of service delivery, liaising with other staff as appropriate, offering support and advice.

To integrate as fully as possible into the residential areas. Liaise with care staff regarding aspects of independence and self-care.

To be responsible for the intimate care of learners where appropriate, in line with school policies and individual programmes as drawn up by the multidisciplinary team in consultation with parents and carers.

To be available for home visits or to escort learners to external appointments as appropriate, at the discretion of the Lead Speech and Language Therapist.

To liaise with medical, nursing, care, education, and therapy and other professionals working with learners to provide a co-ordinated and consistent approach encouraging generalisation of skills.

To work in partnership with parents and carers and offer advice and programmes as appropriate.

To contribute to Statements of Special Educational Needs.

To devise an effective timetable in close liaison with Lead Speech and Language Therapist, education and care staff.

To attend appropriate client related meetings as necessary including: Therapy Team; Behaviour Management; and Annual Review Meetings etc.
