The role of Shift Leader is a critical client-facing role at Wessex College. It involves working within a residential setting as part of a team working holistically with young people who have experienced family crises and who struggle to manage their behaviour.

Our main office is in Newton Abbot, and our homes are within a 45 minute drive radius of the office, with some being just 10-15 minutes drive.

The key outcomes for the role of Shift Leader are:-
* An excellent standard of care is provided for the young people, where positive routines are established and maintained and their individual needs are always taken into account.
* Being the identified responsible person for the shift in the absence of a senior member of staff and the needs of young people are responded to.
* Effective key working with young people occurs as appropriate.
* The welfare of all the young people looked after at Wessex College is promoted, and the employee recognizes and assumes their responsibility to exercise particular care, vigilance and energy in their approach to safeguarding.
* A positive living environment is created for the young people in our care and domestic and household duties are performed to a high standard.
* All risk assessments are adhered to and you will contribute to and have a good working knowledge of the Young People's care plan and placement plan. You will always ensure that any relevant amendments are adhered to on shift.
* Co-workers are mentored and supported in the completion of all records.
* Registered Managers are fully briefed regarding shifts and your co-workers.
* Communication with your co-workers is timely and effective and they are aware of any decisions made on shift.
* Responsibility is taken for any shift decisions, including those requested by on-call.
* Health & Safety regulations are fully observed, alongside any other relevant legislation and responsibility is taken to ensure they are implemented on shift.
* Effective and accurate communication is developed with the young people, their families and others and respect is always shown for their views and opinions.
* Communication within the team is prioritised and end of shift hand overs are comprehensive.
* The equality, diversity and rights of each young person are promoted and all their cultural, linguistic, religious and racial needs are met. Everything is done to ensure that staff and young people are subject to or responsible for Anti-discriminatory practice and any acts of discrimination or harassment are reported to a Director.
* Young people are supervised effectively, a positive level of control is maintained and age-appropriate activities are devised.
* Any concerns about the young people are always shared with their Supervisor or Registered Manager.
* All record keeping and reports are completed accurately and on time. Responsibility is accepted for ensuring all paperwork is completed during the shift.
* Self-development is prioritised and active participation occurs in all monthly supervisions, staff meetings and learning opportunities.
* Wessex College's values, philosophy and practice guidelines are adhered to at all times.
* All opportunities to act as an ambassador for Wessex College are taken and carried out enthusiastically.
* Confidentiality is always kept including that around young people, employees, systems and procedures, both during and after employment.

You will work in a small family home with a shift partner. You will be supported in your learning development and encouraged in your career path.

You will work a 24.5 hour shift pattern on a 3 week rolling rota starting at 10am on one day and finishing at 10.30am the following day. The shift pattern is: Week 1 - Monday, Wednesday, Saturday. Week 2 - Tuesday, Friday, Sunday and Week 3 - Thursday.
