Role Summary

To lead and take ownership of product developments on the Nitesite range of products, ensuring that the businesses product range responds in a timely manner to customer feedback, that focus is given to R&D activities and that continuous improvement of quality, processes and products is maintained.
Core duties, but not limited to:-

Product Design

• To take the lead on all aspects of products’ design and specification
• To respond to feedback from customers with suggested amendments to product specifications in order to resolve issues or improve the product
• To actively manage the design process ensuring that products are developed to agreed deadlines and budgets
• To maintain accurate product specification records including up to date product change logs
• To create accurate product designs using appropriate software
• To create clear technical specifications for products developed
• To liaise closely with internal manufacturing units to ensure that designs meet manufacturing standards and processes
• To develop prototypes in conjunction with the manufacturing team and through use of 3D printing and CAD
• To undertake and report back on prototype testing and evaluation studies
• Through the use of intelligent design, identify opportunities to reduce or minimise production waste or improve productivity through the use of efficient machining
• To evaluate and feedback on component performance to the wider business
• To highlight areas for innovation in either component or product features
External Activities
• To maintain an accurate knowledge of competitor products, design & component specifications
• To maintain an accurate knowledge of 3rd party component development and to closely liaise with manufacturers with regard to their ongoing R&D activities
• To brief suppliers with regard to technical specifications for components and to check adherence to agreed specifications
• To ensure that technical specifications meet production capability of 3rd party suppliers
• To undertake supplier relationship visits to understand their R&D plans and to discuss areas for potential component development in the future
• To liaise closely with suppliers with regard to persistent issues attributable to component failure
• To identify, where needed alternative potential suppliers, assessing potential cost and quality

Knowledge / Experience

• Essential - Degree in Product Design, Product Engineering, Systems Engineering, related degree, or equivalent education or qualifications
• Essential - a minimum of 2 years product development experience
• Essential – a proven knowledge of electrical components and electrical systems design
• Essential – advanced user of Microsoft Office programs
• Desirable – an understanding of vision, imaging and recording components
• Desirable - an understanding of injection moulding manufacturing processes
• Desirable – other languages
Skills

• High level of written and verbal English
• Ability to conceive and execute design solutions using CAD
