Senior Buyer: An experienced and talented Senior Buyer is required to manage the end to end buying process at this leading, fast-growing SME business as it expands its portfolio of own brand pet products.

The ideal Senior Buyer will be a strong relationship builder, able to lead the negotiation process with existing and potential suppliers, setting up long term partnerships and supply agreements.

This is a great role for a Senior Buyer to actively identify new opportunities to engage with suppliers, sourcing new and innovative products for this leading supplier of pet and aquatic goods to independent retailers.

Responsibilities:

- Evaluate current, and identify potential future suppliers, creating a network to ensure the best suppliers are sourced and selected
- Negotiate the best price for product introduction and bring new products to the market in a timely manner
- Develop and maintain SLAs and KPIs for suppliers
- Run and maintain ERP system to support effective inventory control and purchasing against agreed targets
- Support supply chain with focused management of agreed inventory levels
- Work closely with internal stakeholders to understand customer requirements and supplier expectations
- Support the entire purchasing function and other relevant departments, communicating any supply problems that may impact business operations
- Act as an interface between suppliers and other relevant departments on purchasing processes and new projects and activities
- Monitor market trends, competitor strategies and manage supplier support to maximise promotional activity and sales opportunities
- Provide analysis on costs, new and existing, and report on cost control / reduction activities
- Work closely with others in the supply chain function and review opportunities for continuous improvement
- Negotiate contracts, improve process and terms of business with suppliers and review opportunities to make savings, utilising procurement best practice tools and methods


Skills and experience:

- Proven experience in a Senior Buyer / Purchasing role with a background in FMCG ideally in an SME environment.
- Able to engage interest and participation of others, taking a collaborative approach to team work
- Able to build and maintain effective and productive relationships with staff, stakeholders and suppliers
- Excellent communication, negotiation, interpersonal and influencing skills
- Analytical, numerically astute with excellent problem-solving abilities
- Flexible with both UK and international travel to suppliers
- Commercial and financial awareness with a full understanding of how failure impacts customer order fulfilment
- Able to implement root cause analysis improvements along the entire buying chain
- Knowledge of SAP (beneficial)
