Neurosurgery Spinal Clinical Fellow
Applications are invited from trainee surgeons who have a High Degree level for the role of Neurosurgery Spinal Fellow based at the Harley Street Hospital, part of HCA Healthcare UK, leading Private Hospital group.
The Harley Street Clinic deliver complex care and new innovations to improve the patients and Consultants expertise, supporting the patient's journey with diagnostic imaging, and interventional angiography and radiology suites, 9 bed Critical care and 4 complex theatre suite.
The Harley Street Clinic is an independent center for complex spinal surgery with close links with Kings Collage Hospital London and a team of respected, innovative Neuro spinal and Neurology surgeons who operate at both Kings and The Harley street Clinic. 2016 over 1200 neuro spinal cases were undertaken at The Harley Street Clinic which is approximately 100 per month.
The role of the Neurosurgery Spinal Clinical Fellow is to provide Neurosurgical Registrar cover to the Adult Surgical Services supporting Neurosurgical team of Consultants in the management of this patient group and assistance in theatre, post op care plus other projects linked to the neurological service line.
This clinical fellowship is intended to allow an experienced neurosurgical trainee to obtain experience over one to two years in a sub-specialist interest within neurosurgery.
This post will provide experience sufficient to allow a successful fellow to offer himself/herself for appointment to a consultant position involving a substantial commitment to this specialist area of neurosurgery in the future.
Surgeons preparing to work as consultants must be intimately involved with the running of the neurosurgical service and in providing some element of continuity of care for the patients since this will be an integral part of their practice as consultants. The fellow will also be expected to share responsibility for the neurosurgical patients in their area of sub specialist interest within the Harley Street Clinic. The Clinical fellow role will involve following through a group of NHS patients from The Harley Street to Kings Collage Hospital.
Please note the salary scale for this post is subject to skills and experience and will be confirmed at interview.

Assessment and investigation of patients undergoing spinal neurosurgery.

* Spinal Trauma
* Spinal Tumors
* Spinal Infection
* Endoscopic spinal surgery
* Complex surgery to the spine
* Spinal malformations and unusual presentations
* New innovations and technological advancements in spinal surgery
Conduct research into spinal neurosurgery and publish research papers in peer reviewed journals.
Assist and in time perform (depending on his/her level of experience) the majority of the spinal neurosurgical cases.
Attend one or two national/ international meetings each year and present abstracts.
Skills & Experience
- Basic medical qualifications (MB BS)
- Full registration with the GMC and current licence to practice.
- Previous neurosurgical experience
- Exceptional communication skills and compassionate medical skills are essential, ability to work safely without direct supervision and demonstrate good clinical judgement and practice at all times.
