Senior Research Officer
Fixed-term contract - 2 years
£32,000 - £36,000 p/a, based on experience

Research has made huge progress over the last 25 years, but breast cancer is a growing problem. More women than ever are getting the disease, and we predict that 185,000 lives will be lost to breast cancer by 2030. If we are to stop this, we must act now.

Breast Cancer Now is the UK’s largest dedicated breast cancer research charity, and it is our ambition that by 2050, everyone who gets breast cancer will live. We need you to help us get there.

The role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Research Officer to join the Research Directorate at Breast Cancer Now.

The Research Directorate is the expert, externally-facing, driver of research funding, research strategy, research governance and research information for Breast Cancer Now. Its primary responsibility is as a catalyst ensuring that Breast Cancer Now’s strategy is delivered, maximising the potential of Breast Cancer Now’s strong reputation and track record through its scientists, clinicians and patient community.

As a Senior Research Officer in the team with a strong scientific background and research management experience, you will be responsible for the delivery of the large-scale scientific reviews and site visits of the Charity’s long-term programmes and research resources. You will also play a key role in supporting the engagement of the breast cancer research community, such as through the delivery of our research tours.

Reporting to the Head of Research Resources, you will be a senior member of the team, and be expected to develop excellent relationships internally across the organisation and externally with our funding recipients and the breast cancer research community.

About you

You will need an advanced postgraduate degree (or equivalent experience) in a relevant scientific discipline, with a strong knowledge of scientific research, particularly in the cancer field.

You will have considerable research management experience, including peer-review and proven delivery of scientific research programme or quinquennial reviews. The ideal candidate will be very familiar with supporting high-level committees and the UK research funding environment.

You will have demonstrable experience of project management and motivating those within the project team, and will be a team player, working proactively with energy and enthusiasm. You should also have excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
