My client is a new, small, dynamic and ambitious Academy Trust. They currently have three outstanding/good primary schools in the Trust, all based within the London Borough of Newham

They are now looking for a Finance Director (part time 3 days a week) to work directly with the Chief Executive and the senior leadership team in order to achieve the Trust's educational and commercial goals.

As Finance Director you will be responsible for providing planning, insight and clear reporting of the Trust's finances whilst also being an advocate of the Trust's educational work and reputation.

This is a very varied role, with a focus on business operations. Key responsibilities are as follows:

  • Forecasting revenue and costs, budgeting and income generation

  • Overseeing all business operations: HR, IT, premises management and general administration in a multi-location business

  • Supporting the annual business planning process with a focus on income generation and maintaining the Trust's excellent reputation

  • Improving the quality and availability of data, KPIs, analysis and reporting

  • Consolidating the financial reporting from all schools in the trust and monitoring against budget for the board on a monthly basis

  • Supporting all of the school finance teams in their day to day operations.

  • Ensuring compliance with all policies and procedures

  • Driving and developing innovative initiatives to enhance efficiency across the Trust

  • Designing and implementing efficient business strategies, plans, policies and procedures that promote Trust culture and vision

  • Responsible for Data Protection for the Trust


  • Proven experience or excellent potential as a Finance Director

  • Qualified accountant ideally with an additional qualification in academy accounting

  • Understanding of Education business functions such as Finance and HR etc.

  • Knowledge of academy finance, policy and practice

  • Knowledge of how MAT's operate, including legal and funding

  • Knowledge of MAT accounting practices

  • Competency in strategic planning and business development

  • Good knowledge of IT - MS Office, particularly Excel and accounting software

  • Outstanding organisational, interpersonal and leadership abilities

  • Aptitude for decision-making and problem-solving

  • Demonstrate excellent people skills, business acumen and exemplary work ethic
