A large University in London are looking to increase the size of the team to deliver a number of complex IT projects.

As part of the IT Projects & Change Team the Project Manager will take primary responsibility for the overall management of designated project(s) and work packages within the Governance framework (based on Prince2), and will be the main point of contact for project delivery.

Main Duties

• Planning and management of key project activities and resources across specific phases or groups of phases of the project lifecycle, within budget and to agreed timeframes and quality standards
• Proactive and timely identification of risks and issues. Production and implementation of appropriate and effective risk mitigation plans
• Ensuring project documents are up to date and are being updated regularly according to PMO guidelines.
• Ensure the project deliverables are appropriate for their purpose and comply with PMO guidelines.
• Ensuring financial tracking of the projects is managed and communicated proactively.
• Manage a Change Control Process to ensure that any changes are managed correctly and that the full impact and risks are known before any such change is implemented.
• Plan and manage resources (people and financial), seeking efficiency, opportunities for improvement and value for money.
• Ensure that financial plans are developed and that monitoring and reporting are in place to operate within the effective governance of project budgets.
• Provide project management advice and contribute to business case production and process analysis across the office.
• Lead in a managerial role in risk management and resolution of major issues.
• Carry out other duties as may be appropriate or as required, including acting as out of hours IT Major Incident Manager on a rota basis.


Personal Specification

• Educated to honours degree level or equivalent relevant experience.
• Internationally recognised project management certification. Prince 2 (Practitioner level) strongly preferred.
• ITIL qualified or demonstrable ITIL awareness.
• Highly competent in the use of standard project management tools and methodologies.
• Demonstrable experience of delivering large scale infrastructure transformation and business change projects within a complex IT and organisational environment.
• Experience of delivering projects from conception to delivery, including governance, communications, reporting, financial oversight and resource allocation.
• Sense of urgency and ability to manage tasks, keep to deadlines and work under pressure
• Confident working to challenging deadlines whilst managing multiple activities.
• Strong influencing and negotiating skills, able to effectively manage politics and conflicting agendas.
• Excellent critical reasoning and problem solving skills. Able to effectively investigate, gather and summarise information.
• Confident and accurate in communication, written and verbal. Experience of translating IT scenarios into non-IT language.
