Junior Legal Counsel

Location: London N1 9PD

Salary: £40,000 - £50,000 depending on experience

About the company:

Pearl & Coutts is part of the Structadene Group – a private investment company with over 1,300 properties under in-house management. This position is to be part of that in-house legal team, currently consisting of five people – all based at our 9 White Lion Street, Islington head office. The group concentrates on the refinement of its UK wide property portfolio, which has a focus on central London. Structadene’s strategy is to spread risk over a large number of buildings and tenants in a wide range of business sectors.

Duties of the Junior Legal Counsel:

  • Dealing with the whole process relating to sales and purchases of commercial and residential properties all over the UK
  • Handling property portfolio management issues including interpreting legal terms in documents and providing clarification on the same 
  • Drafting and reviewing leases, agreements for leases, tenancies, deed of easements and licences and other related ancillary legal documentation
  • Advising on auction sales and purchases and liaising with auctioneers and prospective purchasers
  • Transactional and document support to structured finance team, advising on UK property issues related to finance transactions
  • Management of delivery of vendor/DD reports suitable for circulation to project finance banks and investors
  • Assist with management of outside law firms
  • Conduct and coordinate research into a variety of legal issues.

Requirements of the Junior Legal Counsel:

  • Newly qualified up to two years post qualification experience with reputable law firm
  • Excellent legal knowledge and understanding
  • Thorough understanding of commercial leases and acquisitions of sales of commercial and residential property
  • Understanding of the law surrounding insolvency, litigation and/or planning would be advantageous but is not essential
  • Excellent drafting skills
  • Commercial awareness
  • Ability to work to strict timetables and under pressure
  • Excellent team player but also able to work independently
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to develop effective working relations with colleagues and legal professionals
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to present and persuade both internal and external stakeholders
  • Proactive approach to continuous development and training
