Senior Production Engineer

For a well established high tech electro/mechanical company in Bognor Regis West Sussex.

NPI: Responsible for coordinating the NPI process from final design phase to full production release. Liaising with the Engineering Project Teams, NPI Technician, Production Engineering, production and supply chain in the successful transition and continued manufacturing support of new product designs and small projects through production. Ensuring projects are achieved on-time to budget

Manufacuring: Provide production engineering leadership and technical expertise in support of assembly. This includes quality of and cost improvement through lean, value engineering and value analysis. Lead the teams in optimising existing processes and efficiently introducing new products and processes.


NPI Coordination and control (Primary responsibility)
• Coordinate the launch of new products and small projects into manufacturing through a controlled gate process, in conjunction with engineering, production and supply chain.
• Providing DFM (design for manufacture) input on NPI projects to design engineering team
• Track and report on product costs related to NPI in conjunction with supply chain and manufacturing processes
• Support supply chain and production to achieve product target costs
• Obtaining and coordinating all manufacturing documentation for NPI
• Working with design Engineering and manufacturing to support NPI builds through various development phases
• Maintain NPI plans and progress and report to Director of Manufacturing as well as NPI Teams, project progress
• Seek for best practices through continuous improvement tools to minimize product and project costs
• Ability to track progress through the use of project management tools
• Coordination with the supply chain team (purchasing and machine shop) to deliver manufacturing parts within project timescales

Production Engineering Support (secondary responsibility)
• Use Lean techniques to enhance the capability of existing processes by removing waste – e.g. over processing, high set up times, rework and bottlenecks.
• Use problem solving data and techniques to identify improvements in safety, quality, and cost to assembly processes.
• Assist with identifying and justifying capital equipment investment.
• Introduce new process equipment and techniques to optimise efficiency and output
• Develop robust and cost effective manufacturing solutions.
• Utilize Value Analysis /Value Engineering techniques to improve product and /or process
• Take a leading role in process and production improvement initiatives, both as a member and / or leader of improvement Team

• You will also be expected to:

 Develop and maintain good working relationships with your colleagues.

Technical apprenticeship followed by HNC/ HND or equivalent in an Electronics engineering discipline or Bachelor of Science Degree in Electronics engineering discipline
Proven management skills in either a Manufacturing Engineering or Production Engineering role.
Strong Lean practitioner skills
Design for manufacturing knowledge
Technical (Production Engineering/ Process improvement related) experience in a technically demanding Electronics engineering / manufacturing environment
