Environmental Advisor – Rail Civils

£35,000 - £37,000 plus benefits

Based anywhere Manchester to Birmingham (some travel within the 2 areas)

You will need:

Essential
•Environmental Degree or Equivalent
•IEMA Diploma / IEMA Associate Certificate
•Minimum 12 months Environmental experience.
•Environmental Awareness
•Internal Auditor (Environmental)
•CIWM Waste Awareness Certificate
•Environmental Duty of Care
•Spill Kit
•PTS
•UK Driving Licence

•IWA/COSS

The Role:

Has principle accountability within the organisation structure for implementing the safety requirements and arrangements specified by the company’s safety management systems. To discharge this responsibility consistently the post must have a nominated competent deputy.

•Responsible for the implementation of, and compliance with, standards and procedures on a day to day basis to enable compliance with the Integrated Management System (IMS) as detailed in the company’s Safety Certificate and Principal Contractors Licence.
•Carry out site HSQE audits and inspections of activities ensuring items requiring attention are resolved with responsible managers and communicated to the project HSQE Manager/Advisor.
•Assist in the communication of Group Standards throughout contract areas to support the development, maintenance and improvement of a Safety Culture.
•Responsible for the effective reporting of Corporate Responsibility data specific to the environment in line with the Corporate Responsibility Framework.
•Responsible for operating within the practice and standards of the IMS.
•Support the Head of Quality & Environment in the development of the environmental policies, strategies and standards to meet the requirements of applicable environmental legislation that will ultimately ensure corporate sustainable development
•Responsible for the reporting on progress of environmental performance indicators and objectives and targets in accordance with the HSQE Plan and HSQE Performance Report.
•Liaison and communication with contractors and relevant local authorities to ensure the requirements of the environmental management arrangements are effectively discharged.
•Promoting and raising awareness, at all levels of an organisation, of the impact of emerging environmental issues, whether legislative or best practice, on corporate, ethical and social responsibility.
•The identification and development of environmental training packages for delivery to staff to ensure the requirements of the IMS are maintained.
•Carry out specialist environmental projects in line with changing business needs, e.g. Carbon reduction, sustainability, waste management, minimisation of nuisance etc.
•Responsible for the development and maintenance of the environmental documentation (e.g. Environmental Management Plans, Waste Management Plans etc.) required for contracts/projects.
•Assist the Head of Quality & Environment in the identification of environmental aspects and impacts relative to VolkerRail’s operational activities
