Our client is a long-established and multi-award winning national main contractor with regional offices throughout the UK. Privately owned and renowned for its innovation and commitment to delivery on time and on budget, they specialise in new build and refurbishment projects within the Commercial, Education, Healthcare, Leisure and Residential sectors, ranging from £3m to £40m+ in value.

As a company they have instilled a real focus on empowering their staff to be decision-makers and encouraging an ethos of learning and sharing from one another to the betterment of the projects and the company as a whole. Internal promotion is also a key motivator for the company and there are several examples of staff who have progressed through the ranks in to senior management and director level roles.

Due to the amount of work secured for the next 3+ years, they are now looking to make several key hires within their regional office in Surrey that undertakes projects across the southern Home Counties. As a tier 1 contractor on several of the long-term national frameworks, this business unit has already secured its turnover target for 2017 of £200m, and are well on the way towards the targets set for 2018 and 2019 respectively.

They are looking to appoint a lead Quantity Surveyor to be the commercial lead on a £20m new build scheme in South West London. Reporting to the Commercial Director, you will be comfortable planning, coordinating and reporting on all commercial activities in order to maximise profit. The ideal candidate will have worked as the lead surveyor on similar projects and be able to influence the entire commercial approach to the benefit of the project.

Managing all commercial aspects of the project, responsibilities will include:

• Cost control through efficient planning, forecasting and estimating
• Valuations and Variations
• Reviewing tenders
• Procurement of sub-contractors, equipment and materials
• Risk analysis
• Dispute resolution
• Regular reporting to directors and the client and preparing relevant documents

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

• Ability to communicate with all levels of staff and management, including direct contact with clients
• Ability to work to programmes and meet deadlines
• A good understanding of the construction process from an operations perspective
• Experience working as the commercial lead on £10m+ new build projects
• A minimum of 5 years’ industry experience
• A degree in Quantity Surveying is preferred

The role of Senior Quantity Surveyor comes with a salary of £65,000-£75,000 plus a company car or car allowance, travel expenses, healthcare and pension, with various additional add-ons / supplements also available
