Part of the IT Change team, the IT Project Manager/Business Analyst Apprentice will support the IT Lead Business Analysts to define and deliver IT and business process changes across the organisation. Key measures for the role include high customer satisfaction, quality of documentation, operational input to a Project Management Office capability, faster delivery of changes and successful delivery of IT systems/services/applications change overall.

• Operational input to the Project Management Office (PMO) ensuring clear reporting on progress of all changes across the IT estate, including those point releases under the control of the Operations Manager and BI updates under the control of the BI Manager
• Assist the Change/Portfolio Manager to apply a prioritisation process to IT changes across the business
• For each project or change, produce clear project initiation documentation, including scope, budget, timescales and risks for each project. Run the projects according to best practice project management principles, tools and methods
• Undertake business analysis work as required, to:
• Evaluate options and present proposed solutions clearly with supporting analysis for validation and review, to include cost/benefit analysis and business process, application and data impact
• Produce clear and detailed documentation of operational business requirements, including functional and non-functional requirements and definition of test plans
• Work with the IT Operations team and business stakeholders to establish service design and service levels for new or changed IT systems/services/applications
• Ensure quality process, applications and systems documentation is provided and/or updated as a result of any change
• Ensure all changes follow best practice security guidelines, such that capabilities and service provided are ‘secure by design’
• Undertake acceptance testing and ensure all testing is completed in line with test plans
• Provide training as appropriate in new or updated processes or application capability, ensuring that users and first line support are fully aware of changes
• Create and maintain a library of business process documentation, and actively promote simplification and automation of business processes
• Work with the IT team to define, implement and ensure continuous improvement of the following ITIL processes:
• Business Relationship Management
• Demand Management
• Design coordination
• Transition Planning and Support
• Change Evaluation
• Change Management
• Release and Deployment Management
• Service Validation and Testing
• Plus actively support the IT team in Information Security Management

This is an Office based role. Due to the nature of the role, there is a need for flexibility and the ability to adapt quickly to changes. This could include call-out and out of hours working if required. This role will represent IT in cross-functional teams on projects as and when required; and may be required to provide holiday cover for other members of the IT team.


• The apprentice should:

• Be customer focussed, flexible, pragmatic and decisive

• The apprentice will gain skills in:
• IT applications and services, with technical IT background, in the financial services/automotive sector
• In depth delivery experience of IT project and portfolio management following Prince2 and Agile methodologies
• ITIL Service Strategy and Service Transition processes
• Practical experience of business analysis and process mapping techniques.
• Expertise within the software development life cycle, including analysis, design, 3rd party development, testing and implementation of software applications
• Understanding of creating and executing test plans
