We are looking for a Purchasing Manager for a global manufacturer of electronic components. The role will have responsibility for the UK purchasing team (7 reports) and a spend of c£30m.

The buying team purchase standard products but also work on bespoke projects with customers. The majority of suppliers are in Asia and it is preferred that the successful candidate will have experience with managing and negotiating with Far Eastern suppliers.

Whilst the responsibility is for the UK there will be regular need to liaise with other offices such as the US or China. Strong leadership skills will be needed and effective communication upwards as well as down will be desired.

A track record in a successful purchasing leadership role that includes demand planning and capacity management is required. The ability to stamp your personality on the department and implement change will also be part of the role. The company have experienced rapid growth in the past couple of years, which has led to more focus on Lean processes and continuous improvement. There are 2 sites in the UK and whilst Milton Keynes will be your primary base there will be a need for regular travel to the other site in Cambridgeshire.

Whilst the leadership, organisation and purchasing skills are key, it would be preferred if you came from either an electronics manufacturing background or another industry which requires agility and quick turnaround times such as fabrication or machining.

The role will report to the Operations Director who has to spin many plates so whilst there will be support. the Purchasing Manager will be expected to work autonomously and use initiative to make decisions.
