Babcock International is looking for an experienced site operative to work onsite at our Beckton training centre.

The Beckton Training Facility is a world centre of excellence for Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) and Incident Command (IC) Training. The Centre also contains a fire house for Breathing Apparatus in Real Fire Conditions (BA RFT) training and the training block containing classrooms, syndicate rooms and welfare facilities.

As the successful candidate you will be required to assist the Site Technical Support Manager with the day to day operations of the Fire House and Urban Search and Rescue training areas, alongside assisting the site technical team with routine site maintenance and reactive activities, completing all associated paperwork to support the role in accordance with all applicable Legislation and Safety directives.


  • Reception Cover / Welcoming Delegates / Providing Safe Access to Site.

  • Ensure the Fire House and Urban Rescue training areas are prepared for course delivery.

  • Set-up of equipment and Stock at the site so that training may be delivered to schedule.

  • Observe and report training material stock levels and Ensure equipment is cleaned fit for purpose and stored after use.

  • Pre-use checks, Nil defect and Defect reporting of equipment, using Technical Support Manager’s processes.

  • Clearing and cleaning BA Burn Rooms and USAR Rigs on completion of exercise.

  • Ensure Company health, safety and environmental procedures are implemented and complied with at all times for all employees.

  • Ensure correct use and maintenance of PPE.

  • Maintain the facility in a clean, tidy and serviceable condition, undertaking detailed inspection and remedial works as required.

  • Ensuring all equipment is fit, ready for use the next day.

  • Conduct basic driving duties to support the site Facilities team.

  • Understanding of Health and Safety in the Workplace.

  • Committed to compliancy and process.

  • General understanding of Facilities Maintenance concepts.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.

  • Good task and time management skills.

  • A team player, able to create positive working relationships.

  • Ability to think on feet and be flexible to changing requirements.

The ideal candidate will own good time management skills, be a self-starter who is prepared to use initiative and eager to develop. A working knowledge of Health & Safety and a real can do attitude is required. We encourage applications from candidates who have a working knowledge of building maintenance although this is advantageous as on-site training will be provided so formal qualifications are not essential.

Role Information:

  • £22,000 (£24,000 on successful completion of probation)

  • Working Monday to Friday

  • Full Time, Permanent
