The Client

Our client are a well-established groundworks and civil engineering contractor that provide high quality construction services in groundworks, bulk earthworks, hard landscaping, drainage, street furniture, substructures, plot externals, utility services and other civil engineering services across the South West predominately in the residential sector. Contracts are mainly in the Bristol, Bath and North Somerset areas.

The Role

The successful candidate would be working closely with and reporting to the Technical Director and working with the Site Engineers and Contracts Managers. The successful candidate would be part of a team working to deliver projects on program, in accordance with the drawings & specification and within budget.

Typical Duties include but are not limited to;

• Review of client site specific strategic plans.
• Preparation and review of specific Method Statements and Risk Assessments.
• Preparation of construction programs and monitoring progress.
• Applications for Road Opening and Road Closure Notices, including liaison with Service Authorities and Statutory Bodies.
• Application for Statutory Agreements such as Section 50’s etc.
• Design, placement and monitoring of Traffic Management schemes.
• Information required for tendering purposes this could include facet of items such as material alternatives or program considerations to hopefully contribute to a more successful tender submission.
• Attend site meetings representing the Technical Director for example, inspection meetings with a Highways or Water Authority Inspector.
• Communicate regularly with the site engineers to ensure they have all the relevant information required, i.e. current drawings, specifications, etc. .
• Following a Health & Safety infringement react / revise Risk Assessments etc. as instructed by the Technical Director.
• Assisting Buying Dept. with approval of documents and specification prior to orders being placed for specific items.
• Provide the Quantity Surveyors any information applicable to the procurement of Sub-Contract element i.e. drawings & specification.
• Liaise with site to ensure all materials where applicable are tested, including arranging testing, reviewing results and files maintained, immediately alerting the Technical Director should any results not meet the required parameters of the specification

The Candidate

The role will include many facets but key are good communication and computer skills. The candidate will require a sound understanding of the various agreements associated with their works, examples being Local Authority Sections and an understanding of the ‘Sewers for Adoption’ specification and the requirements of the NHBC in respect of all elements for which they participate.

The candidate will have previous experience in a Technical Coordinator or Contracts Coordinator capacity on residential / construction sites – maybe this was in a Site Management role?

The candidate will ideally be qualified to HNC / HND / Degree standard, with proficiency in Microsoft Excel & Word. You will also ideally be SMSTS Accredited and hold a CSCS (Managers/Supervisory)
