The Betty and Asher Loftus Centre (BALC) is a newly redeveloped centre and consists of one nursing home, two residential care homes and a day centre for people living with dementia.

The team is responsible for developing strong links with arts, therapeutic and other dynamic agencies to offer people opportunities to enjoy fulfilling lives that connect with their interests, culture and spirituality

This post is full time for 39 hours per week and on a 18 months fixed term contract


The Role

The Living Well Team has a key role working across all the services on site to implement the strategy on promoting meaningful lives for the people who live in, visit and work at the BALC. The Living Well Team has a key role to ensure that the five services on site have an integrated approach that develops into one vibrant and supportive community. Working closely with the homes and dementia day centre's teams, the Living Well Team is responsible for providing a culture of enablement and community engagement. The Living Well Team works with all services at the centre and reaches into the local Jewish community to ensure that the BALC is a vibrant community hub of activity.

The team is responsible for developing strong links with arts, therapeutic and other dynamic agencies to offer people opportunities to enjoy fulfilling lives that connect with their interests, culture and spirituality.

The Living Well Team provides a varied, creative and client-led schedule of activities across the three homes to ensure that residents are offered choices of meaningful activity daily.

The team is made up of five Living Well Facilitators, a Living Well Team Co-Ordinator, a Living Well Team Manager, a Volunteer Manager, a part time Speech Therapist and a full time driver.


Principal Accountabilities / Responsibilities

  • To develop and oversee weekly activity programmes for each home that provide vocational, social and recreational opportunities to meet the physical, psychological, spiritual and creative needs of each resident. 

  • To work closely with care managers and members of the care team to tailor the activities programme to meet the needs of both residents and staff.

  • To lead their direct reports (Living Well Team Facilitators) and ensure the Living Well Programme caters for all parts of the day and night if relevant, in terms of ways in which residents could be meaningfully involved, including vocational, social and therapeutic opportunities, to meet their needs.

  • To support and directly manage the Living Well Team Facilitators, providing guidelines and expertise. To monitor the progress of their work and delegate daily tasks

  • To ensure the programme caters for ways of including family members (and friends) in the daily life and running of BALC, including vocational, social recreational and therapeutic ways of supporting and engaging with residents to ensure the meaningful lives strategy is achieved.

  • To develop programmes that build a community hub that serves and attracts the wider Jewish Community into BALC and to benefit from its resources, ensuring that the programmes meet the needs of residents and members.

  • To manage external creative practitioners and work on special projects alongside the Arts, Disability and Dementia Team to maximise opportunities to implement creative arts projects.

  • To work closely with volunteer managers to create opportunities for residents and volunteers.

  • To plan and coordinate events promoting the wellbeing of the BALC community and to integrate activities across all 3 homes on site as far as possible, whilst continuing to meet the needs of residents.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Management experience of leading and developing teams

  • Experience of working with older people, people living with dementia with varying abilities and needs

  • Experience of working in the field of community arts/recreational activity

  • Experience of community development

  • Experience of working with a volunteers

  • Experience of facilitating, monitoring and evaluating activities

  • Experience of multi-disciplinary work
