A local authority client based in East London is looking for an experienced Environmental Health Team Manager work within and manage the Pollution Team, dealing with Air Quality, Land Contamination and Nuisance Complaints. Details as below:

Role responsible for:

1 x Air Quality Officer
1x Air Quality Assistant
1 x Zero Emissions Network Officer
1 x Contaminated Land Officer
1 x Contaminated Land Technical Officer
1x Environmental Health Officer
Occasional Project Staff

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

- To be responsible for the overall management of the Pollution Team, including the management of staff, delegated budgets and all other allocated resources. The postholder will devise and implement all work programmes and maintain a balance between proactive and reactive work and be expected to manage potentially conflicting priorities which occur frequently due to public complaint, intensive programmed enforcement investigations and changing legislative requirements.
- To be responsible for and respond to Members Enquiries, Corporate Complaints, Ombudsman enquiries and Freedom of Information enquiries, ensuring high quality responses are provided within target times.
- To be responsible for the management of staff sickness in the team in accordance with procedures, policy and targets

KNOWLEDGE:

- Detailed and practical understanding of policy, legislation and practice in environmental health
- Relevant Government policies
- Understanding of the partnerships working to deliver services in environmental health
- Management policies, procedures and best practice

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

- Graduate or equivalent with high level of numeracy and analytical and report writing skills
- Full membership of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health or equivalent relevant professional status
- Continuing professional development with further professional and/or managerial qualifications desirable
- Proven track record of effectively managing projects and/or casework in environmental health, especially pollution
- Substantial experience post qualification
- Management experience desirable
- Relevant experience of allocation and supervision of work desirable
- Experience of handling complaints and VIP enquiries desirable

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Must have a full driving licence and shall provide a vehicle for carrying out functions of the post or be willing to travel using public transport
