Preetha Sampath is recruiting for a Mechanical Fitter to join a chemical manufacturing company based in Birmingham, on a full time, permanent basis.

As a Mechanical Fitter, the main purpose of your role will be to be based in the team that are more involved with changeover of plant. This company produces a wide range of speciality chemicals for numerous industries. They are able to manufacture custom products as well as provide process optimisation.

The ideal candidate will be reporting to the Plant Engineers (Mechanical engineering) and will be responsible for the following:
•Resolve, repair and put back safely into service reactive mechanical breakdowns
•Mechanical fitting work, plant repairs & refurbishments
•Carrying out planned preventative maintenance operations
•Statutory inspections, pressure testing, plant integrity and commissioning duties
•Plant installation and modifications
•Record and report equipment issues and work order details using data base &/or paper based reporting systems
•Work in accordance with the company safe systems of work and permit to work systems

The ideal candidate will have the following Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
•Proven technical background; experience of installations fabrication and process flow would be ideal
•Understanding of Process flow diagrams
•Experience of installation of chemical processing equipment pumps, heat exchangers, motors etc.
•Experience of pipework installation/fabrication, hydraulic pulled sets and bends
•Engineering apprenticeship and/or qualified to NVQ level 3 in mechanical &/or maintenance engineering or relevant equivalent engineering qualifications
•Demonstrate a track record in mechanical fitting &/or maintenance engineering disciplines
•Knowledge of the following would be highly advantageous: Carbon steel pipework, Stainless steel pipework, Mechanical seals, packed glands, Pulley alignments, Drive belts, Oil change, Bearing change, Greasing, Steam and condensate, Fault diagnosis, Working at heights and confined space awareness.
