Job Title: Semi-Skilled Operator (SSO)

Department: Machine Shop

Reporting to: Works Manager

The Role
You will be expected to achieve high standards of quality, in line with targeted levels of output whilst working safely and maintaining full product traceability. You will be working as part of a team and you are expected to contribute to improving any working processes.

The main tasks of the role are outlined below:-
* Load materials onto CNC machine.
* Carry out machining of components.
* Contribute in a team working environment.
* Contribute to continuous improvement.
* Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
* Manually handle weights up to 25kg.
* Complete quality documentation.
* Will be working using cutting fluids & may have contact with small amounts of grinding dust containing stainless steel.
* Occasional use of hand finishing tools
* Occasional Visual Display/Display Screen Equipment work for data purposes.
* Work to lean theory (5s).

The role also includes other general duties to maintain the efficient working of the department and production operations. The above list of tasks is not exhaustive and the post holder may be required to undertake duties as may be reasonably expected. All employees are required to be flexible and co-operative in order to assist in meeting business needs.

SSO's are responsible for supporting a smooth course of production and must ensure machine and product safety and fulfil all the tasks of the role profile with high accuracy, contributing to a stable course of production and a high level of machine efficiency. An essential element of the role is to take responsibility for quality of own work to establish and successfully maintain a 'right first time' philosophy throughout the organisation.

Skills and Abilities
* Ability to use own initiative to work as an individual or as part of a team unsupervised.
* Ability to operate computer equipment for data purposes.
* Ability to use a variety of measuring equipment.
* A methodical approach to systems and understanding of the importance of standards and established/agreed systems of work.
* Able to make decisions

Good personal organisation under pressure from time, internal and external customers.
* Time management skills.
* Good verbal communication and listening skills.
* Ability to promote Fort Vale in a positive manner.
* Ability to read and understand written planning and follow verbal instructions.

* Working in a manufacturing background, preferably engineering.
* Experience of using CNC machines, saws, drills and conventional machines is desirable.

* Fork Lift truck license is desirable but not essential.

Hours of Work
Days - Mon to Thurs 07.30 a.m. to 4.15 pm & Friday 07.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.

Twilight - Mon to Thurs 4.00 p.m. to 12.00 a.m. & Friday 12.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.

Nights - Mon to Thurs 09.30 p.m. to 07:00 a.m. & Mon to Thurs 10.00 p.m. to 07:30 a.m.

The post holder needs to have flexibility to work over a multiple of shifts.

Rates of Pay: Dependant upon level of experience/skill.
Shift allowances will be paid for employees working Twilight and Nightshift.
