Parks Area Manager required for a ongoing temporary assignment with Local Authority client. Must have a minimum of 2 years experience in similar role.

BASIC OBJECTIVES OF THE POST

Responsible for the operational service delivery in respect of all elements of the Parks Service which are provided in a set geographical area.

To provide traded services to clients Schools, and Highway Services ensuring that excellence in service delivery is provided within the budget envelope allocated.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for the effective and efficient deployment of the resources under your control to meet the priorities and performance standards agreed for the relevant service areas.

To proactively monitor the performance standards and implement corrective action where expected standards are not achieved. Where necessary reporting service failures to colleagues in the Client and Commissioning Unit.

To undertake asset inspections in order to inform future work planning or asset maintenance in conjunction with the Client and Commissioning Unit
To provide cost estimates and quotations to service customers and deliver additional traded services in line with agreed timings and customer expectations.

To assist in the management of events taking place within parks and to ensure pre and post site inspections are carried out with event organisers.
To participate in a weekend duty roster on the basis of one weekend in three.

To represent the Council in liaising with residents, businesses, ward members, external partners and voluntary/community sectors in all matters associated with parks and open spaces.

To actively engage with customers, ensuring that their feedback and needs are reflected in how services are delivered and responsible for embedding a customer centric approach within the teams of staff you manage.

Investigate, analyse and respond to customer complaints, Members and MP enquiries and take appropriate action to address any procedural and operational deficiencies and ensure that lessons learned are reflected appropriately.

Manage staff and through a robust performance management framework including recruitment, induction, regular supervision and performance appraisals to ensure that a high level of performance is delivered. Ensure staff are accountable; that poor performance is managed; and that learning and development is embedded within the service.

To be accountable for the Health, Safety and Wellbeing of all staff and service users ensuring that there are appropriate systems in place to reduce accident rates, absence and sick leave, increase productivity and ensure business continuity.

Seek out opportunities for partnership working to ensure that a holistic approach to service delivery is achieved and that opportunities to reduce operating costs are realised.

To deliver volunteering opportunities throughout the service areas to enable greater involvement of residents in service delivery.

Responsibility for budget management to include: annual profiling, regular monitoring, taking corrective action; effective procurement and achieving savings.

Working collaboratively with Commissioning and Client colleagues research, identify and evaluate new initiatives, operating models or good practice and secure continuous improvement in service delivery and/or a reduction in unit costs.

To prepare reports and briefings on service related matters, attend meetings and advise the Councils’ Senior Officers and Members.
Promote a ‘one Haringey’ approach.
Ensure full compliance across your service area with appropriate legislation, Council Policies, standing orders, financial regulations and other governance requirements.

Understanding, knowledge and ability to follow guidelines that ensures compliance to Health and Safety at Work, Data Protection and other statutory requirements.

Knowledge and experience of using IT/working knowledge adequate or sound knowledge required etc
Understanding and commitment to promoting and implementing the Council’s Equal Opportunities policies.

To be responsible for the safe keeping and safe use of all depots, buildings, vehicles, plant and equipment and to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation.
To undertake any other temporary duties consistent with the basic duties and/or objectives of the post.
