This role for Arboriculture Officer has been released on a temporary basis for 3 months initially they would like to appoint as soon as possible after the 20th June.

The role will be based from Dolcoath but with travel across the County. They are happy to have enquiries from people who only wish to work part time. The purpose of this role is to contribute to the work of the Forestry and Tree team during a period of reduced capacity.

Main Duties:

* Provision of specialist arboricultural advice to the Council, its staff and its partners in order to promote best practice, the protection and enhancement of our 'tree resource' and enhance the benefits that the resource offers the communities of Cornwall now and in the future
* Advise and support our planning colleagues on planning matters that protects and enhances the significant benefits of trees (including Tree Preservation, Conservation Area and Development Management matters)
* Engagement in Project Work (advising for example on tree species for planting, appropriate management and safety practice)
* To oversee the tree work undertaken by Cormac on behalf of the Council in order to ensure excellent practice and good value for money.
* Respond to enquiries from members of the public when delegated to you to do.

You should match the following criteria:

* Maintaining and giving sound technical arboricultural and wider tree and woodland advice (where appropriate) within the Council and to partners in a timely and effective manner and within your technical competence. This will include in writing and verbally and should be in accordance with best practice at all times and in a manner that appropriately reflects the technical knowledge of the recipient - i.e. plain English. On occasion this may involve support to Council Committees, supporting line manager and senior managers or representing the tree team and or Council etc.,
* Providing high quality professional arboricultural advice to planning service and its practices (committees etc.,) both directly and through ongoing support and development of 'Tree Advocates' within the planning team.
* To undertake work, as necessary, to prepare evidence and represent the Council in Local Inquiries, judicial or quasi-judicial undertakings. Support and mentoring will be given and offered from more experienced team members where required.
* Prepare technical reports as and where necessary and attend meetings (on occasion out of hours)
* To support the development of our practice in light of particular challenges faced by our communities - including climate change, tree disease of existing tree stocks etc.,
* To develop and maintain good working relations with key and new partners to support our ambitions for Environmental Growth and our tree resource now and in the future. This will, for example, include engaging parish and town councils (e.g. in support of neighbourhood plans), developers (in support of best practice green infrastructure) public and voluntary sectors and interest groups
