An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Civil Protection Officer to join a public sector organisation based in East London.

The purpose of the role will be to assist in the development of corporate strategic, tactical and operational responses in line with the Civil Contingencies Act (2004) and subsequent Statutory and non-Statutory Guidance for the protection of the communities served by all of the organisations supported by the service. The successful candidate will be required to maintain awareness and expertise in relevant legislation and guidance for Emergency Planning and Business Continuity Management, including the Civil Contingencies Act (2004), Expectations and indicators of Good Practice, Minimum Standards for London, Business Continuity standards (BS25999/ISO22301) and the BCIs 'Good Practice Guidelines'.

The successful candidate will ideally have experience working in the field of resilience and civil protection within a public sector organisation. The successful candidate will be qualified and certified as an Emergency Planning and/or Business Continuity practitioner, for example, through the Emergency Planning Society, Business Continuity Institute, or similar.

Key duties will include:

Emergency Planning
- Develop corporate resilience policies, doctrine and strategies for, and guide and advise organisations supported by the Service, and other organisations as stated in 'The Act' to meet legal obligations and subsequent Statutory and non-Statutory guidance
- Develop detailed Risk Assessments, including hazard identification and research.
- Assist in the production, revision and maintenance of the Statutory Borough and Community Risk Registers in line with the 'National Risk Register of Civil Emergencies'
- Develop, maintain and revise and update internal emergency plans as required by legislation, the minimum standards for London and risk assessments.
- Research and evaluate latest techniques and approaches and maintain up to date knowledge of best practice in the fields covered by the scope of the post.
- Provide advice and information relating to Civil Contingencies to senior management, voluntary agencies, local businesses and members of the public
- Prepare material for incident response purposes including plans, documents, maps, and other aids
- Testing, exercising and reviewing of Emergency Plans.

Business Continuity
-Help establish and implement a corporate Business Continuity policy and strategy for the organisations supported by the service.
- Support services to prepare Business Continuity plans, including risk assessments, business impact analysis and mitigation activities
- Maintain links on Civil Contingencies issues with the local business community and voluntary organisations
