Due to rapid expansion both in the UK and internationally a Laboratory Manager is required to join a successful York based company.

• Managing a team of Laboratory Staff heading up all day to day routine laboratory operations; routine testing, manufacturing, QC and export.
• To be responsible for all aspects of manufacturing ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) plate and diagnostic test kit production, export business, food intolerance and homocysteine testing, and all other routine testing services.
• To be responsible for all Quality Control procedures (QC; raw material and final release) and be responsible for the QC release of all products and test results.
• To be responsible for all sample receipt and booking in, laboratory throughput and turnaround times.
• To be responsible for purchasing, planning and stock taking all laboratory inventory to ensure all KPI's are met.
• To translate business requirements into deliverable project plans and actions to ensure that all technical laboratory operations are able to service the company's expected growth.
• To ensure that the company products services and activities, and its sub-contractors and suppliers, comply with relevant standards e.g. ISO9001, ISO13485, Medical Device Directive 93/42/EEC and the In Vitro Diagnostic Device Directive 98/79/EC.
• To maintain and develop the company culture and values.
• To improve 2 way communication in the business.
• To be responsible for effective cross-functional teamwork.

As the appointed Manager you will be required to do the following…..
• Manage the team ensuring that all products and test results meet QC specifications before release.
• To manage the inventory of allergens and plates required for ELISA plate production.
• To manage the team ensuring critical raw materials are tested, released and made available for use in a timely way.
• To be responsible for all laboratory equipment, ensuring required maintenance, calibration, training etc. is carried out.
• Provision of routine technical support / troubleshooting for UK and International distributors and authorised laboratories.
• Contingency planning and troubleshooting in the case of equipment down time.
• Carry out internal audits to ISO9001, ISO13485 as required reporting back to the Scientific Director. An understanding of the European Medical Device and In Vitro Diagnostics Device Directives would be an advantage.
• Responsible for key aspects of QA to ensure that the company products services and activities, and its sub-contractors and suppliers, comply with relevant standards e.g. ISO9001, ISO13485, Medical Device Directive 93/42/EEC and the In Vitro Diagnostic Device Directive 98/79/EC.
• To improve efficiency and effectiveness of customer service operations through improvements in production/testing and interface with other departments within the company.
• To liaise with the Scientific Director in the integration and development of new products and services into the department and reviewing resource requirements.
• To ensure that any corrective actions to non-conformances are made to target time limits.
• Provision of Monthly report to the Board summarising progress against objectives and KPI's.
• To hold and document monthly 1:1's with all direct reports and ensure that each Staff member has an up to date job description and clear objectives.
• Ensure that appropriate Staff training records are in place for all procedures carried out.
• Ensure that attendance records are kept for all Laboratory Staff.
• Talk openly about performance and targets to develop a strong, results-driven, team-oriented culture with healthy competition.
• To work effectively at all times within a fast paced business environment whilst maintaining quality of work and service.
• Maintain positive morale and representation of your team and establishing a good working relationship with all internal and external customers
• Creating and maintaining a positive working environment and taking ownership of your work.
• Following and maintaining all aspects of the culture document.
• Develop and maintain an environment of proactivity, driving a results driven environment at all times.
• Develop a positive approach to issues in providing support to colleagues.
• Adherence to all defined protocols
• Complaint and NCR investigations conducted to determine root cause' and remove/eliminate/reduce potential of a repeat occurrence.

You must match the below criteria to be considered…
• Previous experience in a similar role
• ELISA and blood testing experience
• Strong team Management skills
• Experience of working within Manufacturing / New product development is desirable
• Analytical Thinking
