Senior Software Engineer

Sowerby Bridge, Halifax

Salary: Up to £50,000 DOE + Benefits

Job Purpose:

As Senior Software Engineer, you will work as part of the Product Development Team, with specific responsibility for software & embedded firmware system design. The role covers the entire lifecycle of the product, from initial concept through design, validation, field trials, release into production and sustaining.

The successful candidate will be leading the software/firmware design of multi-disciplinary projects, and the role will also include many opportunities to develop technical design skills for design embedded software development.

Senior Software Engineer Key Accountabilities:

- Major lead in the introduction of new product development process
- Major involvement in product architecture & concept definition
- Translate product requirements into product specification
- Ownership and development of software requirements
- Ownership and development of software requirements
- Management of other engineers, whilst retaining a hands-on approach
- Management and planning of external resource

Senior Software Engineer Additional Requirements:

- Able to motivate & mentor other engineers
- Excellent verbal and written communications, especially in explaining complex technical concepts.
- Proven experience of managing external contractors and partners

Senior Software Engineer Skills and Experience:


- Working experience in wireless communications (BTLE, GSM etc.)
- Familiarity with RF including ISM bands 868MHz to 2.4Ghz, and GSM/3G
- Proven experience in PCB design, both analog & digital
- Working knowledge of schematic & PCB layout, ideally using Altium.
- Proven knowledge of microprocessors including STM8, ARM32 etc.
- Strong power electronics experience.
- Understanding of microprocessor architecture
- Proven knowledge of embedded C programming and commercial electronics
- Proven experience of embedded firmware development and validation


- Detailed and quality conscious with a sharp focus on schedule & delivery
- Able to contribute and thrive in an exciting, dynamic and fast moving environment
- A team player with excellent interpersonal and cross-functional skills
- Innovative along with a methodical and systematic approach to work


- Ideally degree qualified in a relevant subject. (Electronics / Software / Computer Science)
- IT literate (MS Office etc.)
