Senior Design Engineer

Indespension is a leading manufacturer of trailers offering a complete service including sales of new and used trailers, a full range of parts and towing accessories for most makes of trailer, trailer servicing and repair and a towbar fitting service

Overall purpose of job:
• Produce Innovative designs in order to lead the market with cost effective solutions
• To design new products and modify existing designs, complying with all relevant legislation and regulation, operating within Health and Safety Regulations, and practicing good housekeeping.
• To write all necessary programmes for new & existing products to allow manufacture on Bystronic laser and bending machines, as part of the normal departmental activity.

Key tasks:
• Product development –Create innovate, new ideas with a view to improving all Indespension products.
• Recommend plans for the introduction of new products.
• Research into new ideas and technical developments within the trailer industry
• To undertake various project work and to ensure that the projects are completed on time and within budgetary costs.
• Apply a concept to manufacture approach to all new design projects, ensuring sufficient information exists in order to manufacture the product in an efficient manner.
This will include:-
• Full 3D cad drawings issued to both Factories as appropriate, ensuring concise communication of information
• Provision of sufficient information in a timely manner to allow creation of BOM’s quickly, as required by production.
• Attending training course(s) as appropriate to fully understand the requirements of the bender and laser, in order to be able to write the programs necessary for the shop floor and to resolve any problems they may have, with the necessary urgency that Production demand.
• Ensure that all necessary jigs and fixtures are manufactured prior to release of new product in both of the assembly sites Altham/Horwich and take ownership to ensure that these are produced within a very demanding schedule and in a timely manner.
• Attending Altham as appropriate whenever a new product is released, the purpose of this would be to achieve the following:
• Provide sufficient information to allow efficiency within manufacture
• Train the assembly teams in the methods in order to quickly assemble the product, using a hands on approach whenever necessary
• Observe the builders and look for any methods that will speed up the process, for example this may be one or more of the following
• More concise drawings and/or assembly manuals
• Improved jig and fixture
• Requests for tooling that would facilitate the improvement in output.
• Follow up visits to Altham in order to ensure that “your designs” are running smoothly after the initial bedding in period, in order to maximise production, answer any questions and suggest/implement improvements to improve production efficiencies and reduce costs.
• Programming-- To ensure that programmes are written in such a manner to satisfy a predetermined priority in order to satisfy the production requirement and to produce these in a timely and accurate manner
• To assist with stress calculations when necessary, and ensure that all product is tested in a manner to prove any new designs.
• To provide accurate technical advice when required.

Service and support:
• Customer enquiries –To provide professional and accurate advice to all customers when answering technical questions.
• Production Support - To help solve production problems and to look for ways to increase productivity, effectiveness and efficiency.

Necessary experience:
• Solidworks
• Laser & Bending design/manufacturing software experience preferred
• Engineering measurement equipment
