We have a brilliant opportunity for a Deputy Team Manager to work within a Children and Young People's Service in the London Borough of Barnet.

The successful applicant will be responsible to the Team Manager for assisting in the effective management of the team, and the provision of a professional, child centred service in accordance with the relevant regulations, legislation, guidance, codes of practice, policy and procedures. To be responsible for children and young people with disabilities aged between 0-25.

Main duties:
To assist the manager in receiving, assessing, allocating, reviewing and closing cases and to keep abreast of developments in all cases covered by the team
To assist in assessing the level of risk and/or service to be offered to users, ensuring the highest priority work is allocated and that the safety and well being of the child is secured. This may involve making decisions about the immediate safety of children/young people at risk of significant harm
To chair or participate in reviews and meetings attended by users as well as by colleagues and representatives of other agencies, e.g. health, education, probation, police, and to provide written reports as required
To make recommendations to the Team Manager/Assistant Divisional Manager when care proceedings should be initiated and a young person should be removed or remain at home
To provide a responsive service to emergency situations, without necessarily having recourse to the Team Manager, ensuring the safety and well being of the child which may involve working outside of core hours
To maximise the participation of children and their families in service and care planning and in the evaluation of services
To deputise in the absence of the Team Manager, taking responsibility for the day to day management of the service, and to represent the Team Manager as appropriate
To assist the Team Manager in developing staff to their full potential and to advise the Manager of the training and development needs both of individuals and across the Team

Essential skills and experience needed:
Able to manage and prioritise a complex workload balancing organisational and service led demands, to work under pressure, and able to work quickly to complete tasks
Demonstrate a strong commitment to delivering better outcomes for children and the knowledge to do so
Excellent presentation skills using excellent knowledge and experience of complex casework, risk management and care planning
The ability to write coherent, comprehensive and up to date reports and demonstrate skills in electronic file management in line with all policy requirements

Job requirements:
Must be Social Work qualified with an in date HCPC registration
An enhanced DBS of satisfactory level is essential
Must have a minimum of 5 years post qualifying experience, two of which must be within a most recent a management role
