Salary: £18,820 per annum pro rata.*
* Annual earnings based on a basic salary of £15,600 per annum, a Market Rate Allowance of £2,500 and also incorporate shift enhancements for weekend working, which you may work as part of a typical rota.

YOU is a registered charity that has been providing care, support and advice for over 30 years to vulnerable people across Hampshire and Dorset, giving them the tools and resources they need to live independent, secure and valued lives.

The Role

As a Support Worker in our Farnborough service you will working within a warm, welcoming and homely environment, enabling people with a learning disability to live the lives they want in their own home. This service currently provides support between the hours of 7am and 7pm, using a combination of early and late shifts on a rota basis, and there is no requirement for sleep-ins. During a typical day, which will be a 5-6 hour shift, you may be supporting clients with their cooking and meal planning, shopping trips, undertaking some personal care as needed, aiding them to access the community as they’d like including going out for a cuppa or for dinner, attending social events and activities with clients and even going to a show or two at the theatre!

We also work with our clients to find employment or volunteering opportunities for them, access education at local colleges, as well as helping with budgeting support, and learning about maintaining their home. All in all, this is a very fulfilling role, working with a close group of clients living in the same house who enjoy the support of upbeat and friendly staff.

About You

Our staff really do make a difference to our clients and the service offered, so you will need to demonstrate professional conduct at all times, whilst proactively encouraging and supporting your clients. You will work as part of a team with easy access to management support as needed and regular supervisions. You will need to be flexible and able to adapt your approach to the needs of the clients during your shift and possibly to carry out occasional work in our similar Aldershot service.

To be a great Support Worker, we are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and has a positive outlook, with the ability to use initiative to support our clients. A good sense of humour and fun will help to make you a success in this service!

Relevant knowledge and skills relating to individuals with a learning disability are desirable and your values really count as YOU has a strong value base, striving to be person-centred, innovative, trustworthy, can-do and excellent at all times, so it is important that you are as passionate about these principles as we are.

Essential Requirements

• Be willing to work alternate weekends and a share of the bank holidays as per the rota
• Be able to work late and/or early shifts, within the core service support times of 7am-7pm
• Be an effective communicator, and work well as part of a team as well as being able to use their own initiative to overcome issues.
• Be able to adapt their approach as needed for the benefit of the clients.
• Be flexible to meet the needs of the clients and to travel to Aldershot in the event they need to provide occasional support in this sister service.
