BRC are currently recruiting for a temporary Support Worker and Waking Night Project Worker on behalf of a respected homeless charity in South East Wales.

This will initially be a 4-8 week temporary contract covering the absence of permanent members of staff; however there is the possibility for contract extensions.

Both positions will be based within a supported housing project in central Newport for 21 homeless clients aged between 18 and 65.

JOB TITLE:   Support Worker
SALARY:       £10.00 p/hr PAYE (including holiday pay) / Sleep-in Rate: £45.00 per night
HOURS:         37 hours per week (on average); including sleep-in shifts, weekdays & weekends

As part of the Support Worker role you will required to participate in a rolling staff rota; which provides 24-7 cover to the hostel 7 days a week.

DAY TO DAY DUTIES:

o   Provide support and advice to tenants within a supported housing scheme on a one to one and group basis
o   Key work a small caseload of clients
o   Support vulnerable homeless clients with various support needs which might include mental health issues, debt issues, drug and alcohol issues, challenging behaviour and young adults
o   Develop and run workshops for residents, as appropriate & manage any other aspect of client engagement
o   Create and update support plans in line with Supporting People
o   Carry out detailed risk and needs assessments
o   Develop and co-ordinate activities within and outside of the project for tenants where appropriate
o   Enable clients to develop the life skills required to eventually move on to live independently in the community
o   Offer help and advice on education, training and employment
o   Offer advice and guidance surrounding budgeting, benefit maximisation and money advice
o   Maintain clients` files and update records of their progress in the scheme in line with  KPI`s and the Supporting People Outcomes Framework
o  Carry out regular Housing Management / Health and Safety checks throughout the shift and deal with any maintenance issues arising in the most appropriate manner
o   Deal with emergencies appropriately and complete all necessary paperwork

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

o  Experience of key working a caseload of vulnerable clients, which might include the homeless, young adults, those fleeing domestic abuse, Mental Health, Substance Misuse etc

JOB TITLE:   Waking Night Project Worker
SALARY:       £10.00 p/hr PAYE (including holiday pay)
HOURS:         37 hours per week (on average). Shifts = 20:00-08:00

DAY TO DAY DUTIES:

o  Work regular waking night shifts, providing support and advice to clients outside of key-work sessions
o  Maintain clients` files and update records of their progress
o  Provide low level support and advice to residents that complement the support provided by the Support team
o  Carry out regular Housing Management / Health and Safety checks throughout the shifts
o  Deal with any maintenance issues and crisis situations arising in the most appropriate manner
o  Be the first point of contact for all telephone calls and visitors to the project and deal effectively with queries
o  Deal with emergencies appropriately and complete all necessary paperwork
o  Prepare detailed handovers for day support staff
o  Ensure that the safety of scheme staff and clients is not compromised

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

o  Experience working within a supported housing environment
o  Experience supporting vulnerable client groups; which could include those with mental health issues, the homeless, those with substance misuse issues etc.
o  Be committed to working regular waking night shifts
