Jazz Personnel are currently working with an award winning, family run law firm in Middlesbrough who are looking for an experienced Criminal Legal Secretary.

This is a demanding role within a busy department and previous experience in a similar role is essential.

The Job / Responsibilities

You should be a highly-experienced Criminal Law Legal Secretary who completes all associated tasks including digital dictation. You will be expected to complete daily tasks around the office and participate in the firm’s community events and charity work.

• Prepare correspondence and documents for Criminal Department through audio-typing and word processing.
• File legal aid applications using eForms and assist with administration of any document or information requests.
• Use the secure email system to correspond with agencies such as the Crown Prosecution Service.
• Use the Digital Crown Court System to upload/download documents on behalf of fee earners.
• Administer filing (which will include daily filing) and the opening, closing, storage and retrieval of client files.
• Prepare and frank mail and enclosures when required.
• Make appointments, arrange meetings and to maintain paper and electronic diaries.
• Provide guidance to junior staff when required to do so.
• Attend to clients via the telephone and face to face when required to do so and to provide such support in a professional and friendly manner in keeping with the firm's standards for client care.
• Ensure the confidentiality of all the firm's and clients’ documentation and information.
• Ensure adherence to the firm’s practices and policies, and the requirements of the SRA and Legal Aid Agency’s contract rules.
• Ad hoc tasks as required.

The Candidate

You should be of smart appearance, enthusiastic, organised and a team player who will assist in the overall running of the firm. You must have Legal Secretarial experience within Criminal Law and a strong understanding of this area. You will be a competent digital audio typist with a minimum speed of 65wpm. You will have excellent organisation and client care skills.

What’s in it for you?

This is a permanent role, 35 hours per week, Mon-Fri 9am to 5pm. The position comes with 30 days’ holiday (including Bank Holidays). In addition, the firm closes on the last working day before the Christmas break and this is not deducted from holiday entitlement. There is also a pension scheme available
